Shame Cross Climates are not available for the 20" wheels in my S90 -
255/35/20" profile. ![]() Shopping around for tyres but can't really find a nice all rounder tyre. At this rim size its mostly performance tyres which I don't need. Can anyone recommend good all-round tyre please? I'm leaning towards Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5 at the moment.

I’ve just bitten the bullet and ordered 6-spoke 19” alloys with Nokian winter tyres to replace the Pirelli clad diamond cut 21” alloys that grace my XC90. I had Nokians on my last car for winters in the Alps and they were fantastic so hopefully I’ll get to the Alps next winter and have the same results.
I prefer separate wheels for winter as road salt and grit soon damage the lacquer on diamond cut alloys. My Volvo dealer offers a storage facility for the spare wheels.

I agree. I’ve had Nokian’s for both my XC60s (D4 and T8) and they are excellent. Also had them for my previous car - Mercedes E-Class Estate - and they were a requirement where I live in the Scottish Borders. The Nokian’s are excellent in snow but more importantly, on very wet roads, expel a huge amount of water. One thing I would say is that my D4 was much more sure footed than my T8. Serious aquaplaning in the T8 the other day was not handled well - I should have turned the permanent AWD mode on but didn’t think.

Be much better to get some 18 or 19” and either run 20 in summer and smaller in winter or just buy smaller rim size and get wider tyre choice with improved ride quality. |

1) Storage 2) Rim prices I might be able to organise storage with local garage, however the Volvo rim prices are quite expensive. Anyone here run smaller rim on their S90? What are the rim + tyre sizes?

Approved wheel/tyre specs are set out in the online manual. For my MY2020 S90 the smaller ones are 225/55 R17, 245/45 R18 and 255/40 R19. There are one or two restrictions for the 17s.
I have 19s and would prefer a smaller wheel with Goodyear all seasons fitted to improve ride quality but I too suspect the rims will be very expensive. I will ask Holdcroft in Stoke what they could offer when in for first service next week.

Tyre options are limited and very expensive....like you say no cross climates either. My option is to buy 18s, but it's a lot of money. I can't be dealing the faff and expensive of changing tyres every winter/summer when it's not needed in the UK....not in the Midlands anyway. I do like the look of the 20s, but cost, comfort and ability come winter are the issues. |

I bought a set of aftermarket 18" wheels, ensuring they were an approved size, as per the manual and ensuring they would not invalidate the warranty and put Crossclimates on. I've just sold the 20"s on ebay for almost as much as the aftermarket wheels cost. The front tryes were down to 3mm and I would have had to replace them soon anyway, so the actual cost to change was only a few hundred quid, especially as the 18" CC+ were cheaper than the 20" Vredstein and that saving will continue every time I have to replace the tyres.

I’ve had my cross climates for about 18 months and 18k, but recently I’ve noticed them drinking more than normal. It seems 60-70 is the worse. And some road types they’re fine and others it’s worse. What’s other people’s experience or do I have car issue?
