In the cars fitted with a 'storage hole' instead of cup holder, the storage part is secured on to the radio mounting bracket that sits inside the dash. The only way to remove that storage piece is - car battery disconnected - remove the radio from the dash, don't unplug anything, use a butter knife to undo the bottom and top clips between the storage piece and the metal radio bracket, then pull the storage piece forward to free it from two sliding clips that secures it to the plastic radio plate. Without pulling the radio from it's dash location (without disconnecting any wires), it is not possible to remove the storage part.

Thanks!

I got this problem (the cupholder) on my 2002 V70 D5 - and I can't see the pdf either.

If someone has a copy and can post it again I'd be grateful..=*^)

The repair is easy you have to firs carefully open up the unit to reveal the spring for the side are that holds the cup. Once you see the spring and where it has failed (most likely due to the bit of plastic which held the spring under tension has snapped off). All you need to do is wedge something between the spring and housing to give it some tension. i used a plastic assembly joint block.
