I didnt mean drop sump, I mean just drain the sump via the sump plug and refill 2 litres via the dipstick.

Just did a full oil change on my 225k xc70 six speed. Oil was like black engine oil to begin with, then after 15l it turned red. I'll sump dump it once after a few days to check for crud and finally set the level. Car runs nice now, just waiting to see if it helps with delay into reverse. No bad side effects at all.
Look on German Ebay for a brand of oil called Mannol, it's good stuff, several on here have used it. 20l of the stuff delivered is less then sixty quid, it's £11 a litre here!

Default 960 differs

AFAIK the 960 differs in having the Aisin Auto AW 30-40.

I ran 20litres through my previous V70R - it was disgusting when it came out (see the pic!). That car had only done around 110k miles IIRC... If you buy a 20l drum of Dexron III you'll get it cheap enough and you'll know that you've got the vast majority of the old stuff out.

I used some home brew hose to copy the iPd kit and it worked fine. The only caveat is that I withdrew 2 litres (into a 2litre pop bottle), then added 2 litres and repeated - that way you know how much you've taken out and added back. Its easy to lose track

It was worth doing btw, the changes were definitely smoother.

I found 25mm hose pipe was a perfect fit over the cooler outlet flange. I used old 2l milk containers and replaced the oil by measuring to each "dirtyone" on the bench.
It worked really well and was not messy at all.
I had a row of milk containers at the end that started dark black in colour like used engine oil, they turned colour through brown to the last one being cherry red.
Lovely!

The poll so far would seem to confirm my investigations, I have yet to find anyone who oil changed a auto box and caused problems by doing so.

500 miles since my full gearbox oil change, shifts continue to slowly improve, very pleased so far.
I sump dumped the gearbox earlier, the oil is now dark red so is definitely cleaning and holding on to crap in the gearbox.
All good so far.

If you add oil or change it alone can create serious damage. for reasons of formation of air bubbles in the circuit.

I have asked for 180 euros including 18 liters of oil

and the automatic transmission will always be new .: Thumbs_up:

So we take it you have had 2 full oil changes at once as these boxes im guessing hold about 9 litres from empty to full .
i have been changing the oil just whats in the sump on my 940 with ZF auto box
about every 2 to 3 years max this box has a 9 litre capacity but the sump holds just about 3 litres so 3 changes over a month works for me as ive had the car 20 years and car has now done 278000 miles or about 447000 kilometres which sounds good same box same engine !!!

It sounds like he's referring to what they call dialysis Jim - they flush the oil out, clean it and put it back in. Not the best way IMHO as the additives that make the difference to the base oil are worn out and don't improve with cleaning so you're only getting base oil back in the car.

Much better to do the part-changes as you are!
