ditto football crowds crossing the raod outside a stadium after a match ditto anyone who drives a 4 x 4 ditto all BMWs ditto anyone just doing the school run and parking badly ditto anyone with a pursuit I don't personally participate in and/or approve of. To be more serious, there has to be a little live and let live. Especially on this relatively crowded litle island.

quite agree alec, if someone actually derives some sort pleasure from holidaying in a damp smelly tin hutch thats great, each to his own ,its the mayhem they cause to innocent mororists en route to there camps that bugs me once there incarcerated in these camping compounds there good as gold best of luck to them, its just the pantomine of actually getting the accursed things from A to b that is the problem, as you say were just to small an island to have this sort of infestation imposed on us every summer

Totally agree about the trouble they cause in the summer, tractors are another pet hate of mine covering the roads in c**p!
As caravaners go slow shouldn't they be made to have those orange flashy light on there rigs to warn everyone. But to be honest I used to do the camping thing with my parents when i was a kid and enjoyed it, but why spend all that time and money when you can rent the things at most sites anyway, that how we used to do it. Instead of 10 hours to get somewhere you can get there quicker and spend longer enjoying you time where ever. Ray |

I shall always remember when towing my 2 berth caravan along a narrow A road. There was I following a queue of trafic when some nice gentleman behind me started flashing his lights and blowing his horn.Blaiming a silly caravaner (me) for slowing the trafic down.Imagine his suprise when overtaking me and giving the victory sign (at least I think it was that) as he went past to find at least 20 cars and a JCB in front of me.The look of panic on his face was ace especialy when there was a HGV coming towards him.I did slow down a bit to let him back in and he did give me a wave of thanks. It might have shown him that caravaners do not allways cause all of the trafic jams. But we will still get the blame.Bob

oh come on guys its a bit of a laugh, i would have thought that to actually enjoy the "joys" of carvanning you would need a sense of humour, chill out, i enjoy myself by putting on a strange rubber suit, strapping a tank on my back and diving into cold dark places if thats not perverse i dont know what is ! makes enjoying yourself by towing a damp smelly tin hutch around the countryside and creating havoc in your wake look quite normal!

We're just looking for a trailer tent or a folding camper for our holidays. I have owned a couple of caravans in the past, but to be honest, I hate towing the things. The reason we go camping, is because my son, Jimi, has 'autism with challenging behaviour', and if we were to go to an hotel, it is more than likely that he would be up at 2 a.m. watching TV, and disrupting everybodies sleep.
We can't travel abroad easily, due to the fact that we apparently need a Home Office licence to allow us to take his medication into the EU, so the theory is that we can shoot off on the spur of the moment if we fancy a weekkend away in the countryside. After having seen Clarkson wreck a 245 in one of his series, and saying that he likes to run over foxes, I have no time for the man whatsoever. I have no problem with a journalist trying to be 'controversial', but I just find him arrogant and offensive. I do understand that the programme is for 'entertainment' purposes, but I find him and is cronies a total waste of airtime...along with Big Brother, soap operas, 'designer' shows, boot fair programmes...the list goes on and on ! This is what happens to you...be warned you younger members...when you start to get old, grumpy, and wear a flat cap to cover your bald spot (Patch/head). Lifes too short to have to listen to twits like Clarkson and his ilk. By tyhe way, I don't hate being held up by a caravan as much as I hate someone sitting two feet off my back bumper because I'm sticking to the speed limit ! Please don't take this too seriously (I'm not), or I may book Jimi into an hotel near you one day... |

Barrie, you've just made a very good point. Everybody is affected by circumstances - the positive thing about this country is that we have relative freedom to do what we want when we want, however we are affected by more and more rules and regulations in everything that we do.
We all have diifferent needs - we as a nation don't all fit into typical family catagories of 2.3 children - some people have a huge variety of needs to look after disabled children/adults pets etc that the majority of "normal" holiday hotel/bed and breakfast facilities may not be able to support - or people simply want choice! Stopping caravaners having the freedom to drive where they want when they want by regulations may be a popular move by some, however it's just another step towards stopping motorists freedom to travel where and when they want, where would this stop? Everybody seems to be in a hurry these days (me included sometimes!) - people take stupid chances just to save a few seconds - to what end? It can be very frustrating being stuck behind a line of slow moving traffic - that's every day for me on the M25 on my 100 mile round trip to work. I go to Scotland regularly and really enjoy the feeedom of sometimes never seeing another car for more than an hour on some of the roads that I drive on (depends on the time of year!) In the end we do have to have tolerance - tolerance is something that a lot of drivers don't seem to have! Let's save a second it may change our life - well it may do as life may only be a millisecond more! I have taken calculated chances myself when overtaking - so I don't want to appear a hypocrite!
