Aftermarket rubber mounts dont last so genuine volvo are the way to go if you want rubber or poly ones are a good fit and forget option. The are fairly easy to DIY fit

Hi I've gone genuine Volvo from FRF, should be here tomorrow.

I have changed engine mounts on my 1986 740 estate but don't fancy crawling under the car to save the £45 fitting charge. Sometimes it's easier to let someone else have the hassle!
I have heard poly bush are very good. Hope this sorts the knocking noise?

Default Still not fully fixed.

I got the new engine mounts fitted and even though it's much better there is still a clunk sometimes if you give it brisk acceleration while pulling away. On normal accelerating it runs great. Seems to be more under hills and turns.
The automatic gear lever vibrates and clunks/bangs directly under it like it's hitting against the underside of the car.
The garage had it up on the ramp and checked everything and only things noted were no spring fitted in the used centre bearing rubber outer thing. One fitted. The exhaust downpipe bracket is snapped off so removed it. It's had a new gearbox mount too. I am going back tomorrow as arranged for them to put it on a ramp and have it running to see if we can locate where it's hitting underneath. I also should receive a new centre bearing so will get them to fit it to rule out the used prop and bearing and rubbers.

Today went to the garage and they investigated the knocking noise. The chap decided to change the gearbox cross member that the gearbox mount, mounts too and fitted a used one and hey presto no knocking noise.
Think it must of got bent out of shape somehow and there is now 1 and a half inches between the prop flange and transmission tunnel. Drove home the 12 miles with no knock so hope it continues
My thinking is as the tail housing had massive play it may of took it out of shape?
