I've just done the brake shoes and a service on my 2004 V70 D5 so out curiosity had a look at the origin of the parts and was amazed to find no fewer than 7 countries of manufacture as follows,
Brake shoes: India
Brake spring kit: Sweden
Oil filter: Germany
Fuel filter: France
Auxiliary belt: Spain
Auxiliary tensioner: Slovak Republic
Pollen filter: Romania
Air filter: Sweden

So 8 parts and 7 countries manufacture all parts genuine Volvo.

if the parts fit and are good quality it dose not really matter most car manufacturers source parts from other country's

Where the "genuine parts" are made doesn't matter, the important thing is that they are made to Volvo specification which will be far superior to any OE specification

I thought OE was "original equipment"......

I have bought new genuine Volvo rear discs and pads; discs made in Sweden and pads made in Czech. The discs both have a machined "indent" on the outer circumference so that the outer edge is not a perfect circle. It is definitely made that way - is it to balance the disc or another reason?

i think the point is that OEM (original equipment manufacturer) is the company (or, over the years various companies) who provide the equipment.

as i understand it the items they send are tested and kept or rejected by volvo, so volvo supposedly has high expectations and only keeps the good stuff

that doesn't necessarily mean that the OEM company constantly supplies items of that high quality

how much truth there is to that is probably anyone's guess unless they have 1st hand experience of working in the volvo parts department.. personally I have no beef with aftermarket parts by reputable manufacturers like bosch, meyle, brembo in the case of this thread, moog, and so on

i think there is a risk of being too picky about these things for what is let's be honest, a 5-6 grand car thats 20 years old, I suppose really the main thing is to minimise how many times you have to do a job, that's just about how much you value your time isn't it, and obviously that's more important for parts buried deep in the engine bay than it is for parts which take all of 10 minutes to change (within reason, as long as they're safe to use, and so on)

Got to admit, I never checked where the shoes were manufactured since I bought them direct from Volvo parts and therefore assumed they would be the real deal (volvo approved etc). I know your paying the price but I'd already wasted my time and money on a set that weren't up to the job.

Replacing the caliper seals??? Would be fine if I had that amount of time allocation to work on the car. No I'm afraid it's quicker to fit new calipers.
I even had the local garage do the oil change this year, and that's another story in another thread.
