Cheers, currently deciding on a plan for my engine, really I would like to find a good second hand engine for it, as the rebuild cost of my poorly engine is going to be hi. But we will see. As you can see from my channel I have to many cars in there right now so I am trying to clear some to make space for the amazon again. So the 245 will live outside and get a "rustoration" for the road.

I’m up to date with the Amazon episodes - I’ve just watched Jackman’s first one - that chap is a glutton for punishment! I’d agree that a good secondhand engine would be the best solution if the one in your 245 isn’t much good (or are we talking about the Rustberg’s engine?). It would be easy to spend more than the car might possibly be worth otherwise. Unless the sky is the limit for your restoration, I’d suggest it would be best to stick with standard Volvo motors; there are plenty of folk that would advocate V8s and so on, but I think the cost would be prohibitive (just read about the Rover V8 engined 240 we have been discussing over the past few days - the seller says he spent £60,000 on it, and is now trying to recoup £16,500 (unsuccessfully I think)). Others (such as Luke) will know far more than I about warming up 240s, but I’d have thought a 740 or 940 Turbo engine would be fairly easy to fit and give something like 170HP. I suggest that because 740s (and 940s) generally aren’t old enough to be historic vehicles, and so sell quite cheaply. You might find one that is an insurance write-off having been crashed as a daily driver perhaps. Luke may well be along later and offer some advice on what to go for. Alan

… I happened to notice this one on eBay:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/266808791...mis&media=COPY … if you were going to do a restomod on the 245 then there might be lots of bits you could take from a 740 GLE turbo that would fit fairly easily .

I think he is talking about his Amazon. That engine was unfortunately seized so needs quite a bit of work to fix, if the block is usable.
The rustberg engine engine needs a rebuild, it's suffered from lack of maintenance and is full of sludge and the cam is no good. When I am back on that car I'll get it rebuilt. The engine in this estate will hopefully be usable with a good service etc. And yes I am a glutton for punishment. |

I remember the YouTube video about the Rustberg’s motor, that looked pretty bad as well. You have much more resolution and patience than I do Jackman. I’d certainly have shelved the Rustberg before now, and I suspect the Amazon about 12 years ago.

I have heard tell of an unused crate B20. .
Personally, I have a good 2.3 turbo sitting about I no longer need. |
