I think the air filter box and the intercooler aren't big enough in the Euro 3 D5's. A bigger filter and intercooler would help tenfold. You can even see it on the air filter boxes where they swell at the edges.
Mmmm, not so sure, mine is an automatic, and it went at c,100k, but about newer cars, you're right. A fellow forum member with a P3 V70 with 60k miles will testify to that. 😬

I know the feeling.
The scuffed alloys and body scratches let mine down too.
Luckily the lacquer is good though. That's going to be tough to sort isn't it?
The reliability and how nice it is to drive makes up for it and that's the main thing I guess.

Yer right buddy, it all works good, that's the important thing. Its 12 years old, so I can't expect it to be perfect, and its not worth a great deal so I'm not that bothered.

I may be wrong but they never seem to bow on the left.....
I think a clean egr is key to a free flowing non blowing intercooler.
I would like to have a peak hold pressure guage on the IC so u could see if there was any crazy pressure blips which push the IC open incrementally over the lifetime of them.

My one was bowed at the bottom and split. I repaired it and has done 18k so far, fingers crossed

You're washing it too often. Go every second year.

Ah right, its a 24 month wash and not 12. Are you sure youre not confusing that with how often some people actually change their car before it needs a wash Brendan?

You've done the hardest part by changing the i/c so there's not much point in saving a relatively small amount by fitting a used replacement.
Used intercoolers are in the same category as used belts, pulleys and brake pads, well for me at least.
