After that you MUST unplug the gray plug that is on the EGR itself. For some reason having it plugged in puts the warning light on. That's it, done.
I don't have a warning light but I do have a fault code for high EGR pressure when using a scanner because its blocked off. It won't put it in limp mode or anything so it doesn't matter but its worth remembering its there so you don't go hunting a red herring if you have issues with something else in the future!

Here's the one I bought http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1613090332...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
EGR now bypassed. I unplugged the grey plug, started the car and it was starting lethargically and not sounding happy... Put the plug back in, happy car again. No warning lights so I'm leaving it as is. It does tell you to put the plug back on in the instructions that comes with the plate.... Road test tomorrow and throttle body clean when I find my Torqs set

It was lumpy and not very interested in starting first time.... Hope it's not a future gremlin manifesting itself. It almost felt like a misfire when I revved it..... Plugged it back in, all gone

This might sound stupid but was it the correct plug? You didn't unplug something else because I didn't have that problem and theres no sensors in the EGR!

Who knows eh? The cars better for it though. I get the warning light and the Engine Service message but other than that it's fine. What would the symptoms be if my EGR valve was stuck open?

Well assuming you now have that blanking plate in it should make no difference. If it was wide open it still can't get through. You have warning messages? Are you sure you don't have a DPF?

Quite sure, I checked with Volvo and I passed 75k 18 months ago without a hitch. Deffo no DPF.

With the EGR stuck open, would it affect starting? I was getting mis-starts, now I've fitted the plate they've stopped. Result!!

Throttle Body clean and chamfer the butterfly valve next.
