Yes, disconnect the negative terminal only. This resets the BMS.

Battery monitoring sensor. Between this and the ECM calculates whether the system works or not.

What with Christmas and New Year didn't pursue the problem but left it until today. Decided to try disconnecting just the negative battery terminal and if that didn't work take it back to the dealer. Well it worked ! Cheers volvozx6r and all the other members who also offered advice.

Default Not working !

Worked for the time after the negative terminal was disconnected/reconnected but next day not working. Just discovered a service sheet from Nov 2010 which said couldn't get it to work as journey was too short to get it to kick in. Information attached said it will only work when battery is fully charged and engine warmed up. Back to the drawing board or the dealer. Or would it be worth contacting Volvo HQ direct ?

The reason for not working ( which can be read out by the dealer ) at this time of year seems to have changed from battery to climate system , there is an electric heater element in your heater unit and this will sap resources also the fan will be working harder in winter and also the AC . so if you turn all that off see if it works , give the battery some time to recover though ..

Will give that a try tomorrow. So, turn off all electrical equipment, drive around to charge battery then see if it works ?

Just a quick point before i do the above. When I'm sat in the car, key at position 2, but with no electrical equipment on, the display says "Low Battery" before switching to saving mode. Is that correct or does it indicate an actual low battery that needs charging ?
