I think you need 98W, 94W doesn't meet the manufacturer's specification.

Would have to check my manual but 94 = 670kg per tyre meaning a total weight of 2,680kg. Thats more than any V70/S80 is legally allowed to be. I'm pretty sure that all models have a maxium weight of around 2,300kg.

Ok, been phoning around today. and looking online.

Got a price of £590 for four Goodyear Efficent Grip Performance 98w which doesnt seem that drastic?

Seem to have good reviews for these tyres and I notice some members here use them too...

one of my friends put 4 on his Passat, hell of a difference compared to the budgets he previously had, haven't tried them myself but he loves them.

to be honest, for the price I'd give them ago Pretty awesome price for a decent tyre!

They seem fairly quiet with road noise, heavy rain he finds it spins a little, but he's got a 1.8petrol turbo that's been remapped to something silly, they seem to last a long time also, but then he's got a petrol and I've always found tyres seem to last longer on petrol cars.

Goodrich have a good reputation as regards their all terrain and other off road tyres. In fact many off roaders will say they are the best.

Interesting to see the end of the story. 4 tyres for over £100 less than National wanted for 2 is a great outcome.

Well, had the tyres fitted on Saturday morning, fitter turned up on time and seemed to do a good job.

I've only done around 500 miles since then, but early impressions are:
  • Good grip in the dry
  • Good grip in the wet
  • My car is very quiet anyway (have the laminated windows with the security pack), but these seem a bit quieter at motorway speeds than my old contis did

So, overall, really happy with the tyres - I'll post back in a month or two's time to let you know if my experience has altered my view at all.

Since the winter is coming i have ordered 4 Nokian WR A3 225/50R17 98V XL for price of 415 euro, which is about £350. I know this is a very good price considering A3 is the performance version and D3 is the economical. They have an incredible feedback on tire reviews uk. Many claims that Nokian is the best winter tire available.
