Surely the starting emissions as it coughs into life far out do the benefit of stopping it

Glad my Defender doesn't have it as the 300tdi kicks out a fine old cloud of clag when it starts

It will also be worn and lacks a DPF to trap the emissions.

Sort of like comparing apples and pears, they are both fruit but very different

I don't think it is that crude. It's not simply a case of the engine stopping willy-nilly, the designs incorporate an optimum "resting" stage of the 4-stroke cycle. Here is a brief account of the Stop-Start technologies in use.

My dealer told me they can't switch it off.
I don't think Start/Stop really helps on saving fuel.
I live on an island which is located at tropical and subtropical zone.
Hot and humid weather accounts for over half an year. Start/Stop is not a good feature in such climate zone....
