I'd be looking for the earlier type as well, because you get the 4 speed gearbox, but also if you go pre ME7 you get nice simple ignition system and a throttle cable, much less to go wrong!

I often wonder if I should have gone for an earlier one and avoided the extra complications. Certainly don't do what I did and buy one made not long after the tax change, I didn't even give it a thought when I was looking but if I had bought one made a year earlier I would have got the cheaper tax. I think there is only £30 difference for 6 months so it's not a huge amount but it all adds up.

ok cool, thanks for the help guys, so i'm still set on a 1999-permarch 01 car. Next dilemma is, my audi sold just over a week ago and there's not been much in the way of 2.4 for sale within a sensible range of me for the past 3 to 4 weeks. As fuel economy is pretty important to me as it's going to be my commuter tool a t5 is out of the question now, the vast majority of C70 coupes for sale seem to be the 2.0 LPT model. The only 2 things putting me off them is 1) the turbo is just another thing to potentially go wrong, 2) what if the fuel economy is just as bad as my audi.
So, a question to all the 2.0 LPT owners, what sort of mpg / miles per tank are you getting? Thanatos has already said he's getting mid thirties which would be fine for me but i'd like to get as many people's feed back as possible. Based on a full tank of 68 litres 33mpg should see about 490 to a tank. Anyone getting anywhere near this? |

Hi,
I bought a 2003 2.0 lpt convertible a few months ago, and I'm in Milton Keynes. You're more than welcome to have a look around it if you need inspiration??? Currently only getting about 25mpg (bloody roundabouts!) but it probably needs a service now too. pm me if you want to have a nose? |

thanks for the replies guys, Jimbo is your's an automatic? Cheers for the offer of a nose around, i'm pretty set on a C70 anyway, even though i haven't driven or sat in one yet. I'm a big fan of larger capacity engines and can't stand this concept of downsizing and adding high pressure turbos to cheat mpg tests only to end up with a car that needs the tits rev'd off it to get it to go anywhere and unless you're getting an RAC relay home you'll never achieve mpg figures anywhere near what's stated.
The C70 sits in a really nice niche, it's cheap to insure for the power and engine capacity, it comes with sensible wheels/tyres (the 18's on my audi were expensive and uncomfortable), they have more than a 140bhp 2 litre 4 pot under the bonnet, it;s a true GT car which is perfect for an A road daily commute, and crucially it looks way more expensive than there second hand prices suggest. Just can't believe now i've got cash in my back pocket there's none for sale within a sensible distance, on autotrader the closest is over 50 miles away, and the only ones i'd consider are over 100miles away. Always had silver cars so would like a dark metalic colour ideally, used to see a few come and go over the past few months but now, nothing :-( (Oh and can't PM as my post count is too low (although the way i'm going that wont be the case for long)). |

Hi Dr T,
yes my count too low for pm too! Mines an auto, dark metallic grey, is very comfortable to drive and a real head-turner with the roof open. Dont want to give my number out on here, but if you can get in touch you're more than welcome to have a look over it. |
