Excellent - Who needs AM anyway!!!

Something for the weekend definately for me, to connect my Belkin Aircast, as I am sorely missing the bluetooth audio and handsfree!

Well done on finding this!

ONE question to add though - Is there a MUTE connection anywhere on the system, ie, a terminal when grounded will turn off the sound?? I ask as I need this functionality for a little "extra" that I am fitting....

Ooh, just thought too, can BigIce confirm that the pics in this thread show the connections into the AM feed, and not the FM one as originally stated at the beginning, likewise the link to cut?

Another alternative which I used on 2004 model a few years back was to tap into the amp under the drivers seat. I added a changeover relay (in the amp), switch (to activate the relay) and 3.5mm input in the blank above the menu button.

The principle is the same.

I've since added a bluetooth adaptor which means backseat users with any device can control the playlist.

The amp is similar to the one used in the v50 and there are pics somewhere.. I've taken some and will post them when I relocate them.

1, Remove head lining 2 screws each side..

2, You will see the AUM module, remove as complete unit..

3, Take the AUM from the aerial and remove the TMC, and GPS if you have them.

4, Open up the AUM and find the capacitors and add some cable as shown. You can take them out to a set of rca`s or to a 3.5mm phono jack for you mp3 player. If you cut the track inside the circle it should remove the AM signal and to listen to the MP3 player just swith over on the head unit to AM... I did not try this I used a DPDT relay......

If you want you can add a DPDT realy to switch between inputs like i did with my parrot bluetooth kit, the mute wire goes to ground when the parrot is working, this grounds the relay and auto switches the input, or if I am listening to the radio when an incoming call comes thou it auto switches again......

I take no responce ablity for damage.........

If you radio doesnot turn on after the mod you may have blown the fuse in the REM Circuled

First of all, thanks for posting this mod.

So I did the mod, but have a slight issue.

I connected 3.5mm cable as shown in your picture, before cutting the AM signal, I decided to test. Sound came out perfect, except that its on FM as well, so unless I unplug the connector from the iPod I can't get any radio. I then cut the AM signal as you suggested, still getting sound on FM unless i unplug the ipod, AM has disappeared all together, which was expected.

Any thoughts or ideas you can share?

Thanks in advance for the help

Yes, I also have mine working on fm/am. I did not cut the track so whenever I plug in the iPod, I still hear slight fm signal on background.
When you cut the track, you say you lost am altogether...does that mean you can not hear the IPod too?

No, I can hear the ipod, just no AM, and FM is fine except when ipod plugged in. I went bought bunch of different parts today, so I'm going to do one of two things, either the same trick as Bigice, where I will remove the capacitors and introduce the signal there with a relay or use a manual dpdt switch. I also ordered the parrot bluetooth kit, which bigice mentions in his earlier posts, I expect to get that tomorrow. So if I can figure out how the parrot controls the relay then I will wire it such. So that when parrot is turned on the relay will cut the signal regardless of am/fm and feed the ipod signal. This way if I am listening to the radio and a call comes in I can answer it through the parrot. I will reconnect the am track so there it stays as full functioning system. So I will be spending this weekend configuring this.

I just didn't realize that the input signal would take over both am/fm. But still grateful for learning that we can do this mod.

And gab, thanks for confirming.

Yes, it will take over both am and fm. I didnt cut the track for the am since I did not want to chance it.
But now that you have confirmed it, I will now do it and use my AM as dedicated line in.(I could not remember the last time I used AM anyway)

Also, if thats what you wanted, your parrot mki9000 is fully capable of doing that so you dont have to mod the fm. You just need to get the harness for it. If im not mistaken, they bypass it in the amp.

Me, all I plan on doing is to just buy a Belkin Auto Aircast to add Bluetooth capabilities...and fix it somewhere hidden...that way it looks stock.

Sorry guys been away with work, Regards the parrot, take a switched live to a relay then use the yellow wire to ground the relay out, then this will cut all fm signals and take over the radio, for incoming calls and music, whenever the parrot is in use...

I finally got round to doing this aux input. I went the easy route of soldering to the caps and cutting the AM feed. After putting it all back together nothing worked - then I saw you mentioned the fuse (I guess you had this issue)! Changed the fuse and then it sprung back into life. I imagine the fuse blows as when plugging the power feed back into the antenna its all to easy to touch the metal case and hence blow the fuse. So for anyone else doing this, I'd strongly recommend removing the rear fuse (number 10) until all plugged back in.

Seems to work fine plugged into mp3 player and switched to AM - which we never use anyhow.

One issue I have now though is a rear park assist error and I did get the anti-skid error. I'm guessing this is somehow relating back to the blown fuse? Will take a better look tomorrow and try resetting the codes.

Many thanks to Bigice.

By the way, how have you all run the cable to the front of the car? It seems there are curtain airbags along the sides, so don't want to interfere with the operation of these.

Thankfully clearing/resetting all the fault codes has resolved the skid assist and park assist messages. I guess they must share that same fuse.
