I'll have a look online for some new rubbers, try and find next day delivery from somewhere. I should've changed them when I replaced the pads & disks last time really

June 2021 I fitted them according to this photo. Can see it not wearing evenly there.
If I remember rightly I redid that one because Id used General purpose grease which was way too thick, so went and asked for a sashet from the garage from across the road. Wasnt sure how much I should use and because Id used too much general I was conscious of not over doing it with the proper stuff from the garage. Possibly Ive been a bit too sparing, there was about half a sachet left over. The other side my mate at the garage applied grease to the pins for me after re-tapping the caliper bracket. Possibly new rubbers, clean, and fresh copper grease is all I need.

1. Fully depress the foot brake pedal. 2. Pull the lever firmly. 3. Release the foot brake pedal and make sure that the car is at a standstill position. 4. If the vehicle moves then the parking brake lever must be pulled more firmly. When parking a vehicle always put the gear selector in position 1 (for manual transmission) or P (for automatic transmission) Parking on a hill If the car is parked facing uphill; turn the wheels away from the kerb. If the car is parked facing downhill; turn the wheels toward the kerb. from the manual just as I said . There was a problem with the S40/ V50 running away down a hill in about 2006 and there was a recall to add a supplementary page to the owner's manual .

The problem arises when your rear brakes are hot after a down hill stint of braking , then you pull the handbrake on , the discs cool and reduce in thickness and the car rolls away.

So I had a look today and found that the pins were pretty much bone dry, and loads of gunk in the rubber sleeves. I pumped the piston out and wound them back in a couple of times, but tbh they both turned fairly easy by hand (using the tool). When I did them a year ago I had to get some leverage to get them start, seem fine now.
Ive cleaned up the pins and rubbers so they are almost as good as new. Probably could've done with a new set really but didn't want to wait for delivery. I found the YouTube video I followed last time and he (American guy) puts the smallest amount of grease on the pins. Looked at another vid today and he put it on like toothpaste, so I did that, and this time they pushed straight in through the rubber. Last time there was a lot of forcing and swearing lol. Cleaned off loose rust and checked handbrake mechanism, all looks fine and intact. Just been for a spin around town and even though its a lot better, I can still hear it on oneside (nearside), and when I brake its a very distinctive "Ssshhhhhhhhhh". Ive probably only been 3 or 4 miles, but the disks look like they are starting to wear more even. It seemed to be better when driving fast, and just after heavy braking. Should those rust spots wear off the more driving and breaking I do? I also went and stopped on a very steep hill, needed 6 clicks on the handbrake before it held, so gave it another half turn and left it at that.
