I saw a new Q7 today for the first time.

No doubt a sublime engine and drivetrain.

However

and its a big however.

It looked like an utter, utter turd. An amorphous piece of stereotypical bling crap. Almost offensive.

XC90 or RRS for me please.

My problems with the Q7 are,

A, It is butt ugly from the front and also the back.

B, It looks like a big estate car, not a 4X4.

Yes, dealer told me. You can confirm with the Volvo car configurator. Spec the winter pack and then the heads up display and the winter pack will be removed.

I dont get it then. I have chosen "winter pack when chosen with head up display" at 1175 quid vs about 600 for the normal winter pack. I assume i am getting a winter pack and a head up display. Not entirely sure what i would be getting otherwise......?

It does say in the brochure that the heated windscreen is not compatible with the head up display

In which case they must have modified the heated screen to be clear in the heads up display area and my info is out of date now. I looked when the new XC90 first came out.

Thanks for explaining that.
How irritating

Well let's just see. I have just checked my Contract Hire Quotation and can't find reference to the heated seats or any of the winter pack bits in the detailed spec (although it is added to the main vehicle details on the front page).

I have queried with the dealer and will post the reply.

Now that I've worked out where I was going wrong, here are a few more. Sorry they are crap but they were just very quick phone snaps:

I really like the amber leather/charcoal grey combination. I thought the amber looked a bit too orange in the official promo pics, but it's not. The whole thing feels really nicely put together - detailed touches like the sliding cover for the centre cupholders are great - it's made up of individual leaves which are all veneered in the walnut trim. Catches all feel solid and the doors shut with a (don't shoot me) Germanic thud.

It gets the odd quizzical look from people wondering what it is, but otherwise seems to go fairly unnoticed, which I like. Had the opposite experience with my old Nissan GTR, in which you sometimes felt like you were on show with people taking phone pics and videos etc, which always felt a bit strange. This is much more under the radar. And the boot is bigger.

Have had an email from Volvo offering a session with a product specialist to run through any of the tech that we haven't yet got to grips with, which should be interesting. So far the only glitch I've noticed is that it refuses to keep phone favourites stored between trips, but it could be me.

I also haven't yet worked out how to save seat settings to the key and the same goes for the HUD, which seem to just stay where you last left it regardless of who is driving. But I suspect these might well be user error.

I've briefly tried the park assist pilot, but just found it irritating as it takes twice as long to part with it than without, but I guess it might work for the less spacially aware
Just looked at these pics again. Should have gone for the walnut with the amber leather not the standard metal. Darn.

My problem with the Audi Q7 is that it is an Audi, and therefore they will have got rid of something called the suspension and simply welded the wheel hubs directly to the body. My A6 kept my chiropractor in good spirits as he saw me week after week. At £34 a time he soon had enough money to buy a new car (funnily enough it was not an Audi.....)
