Old filter removed this morning and left to drain again for another hour, new filter primed and fitted, sump plug refitted with new washer, 5.3 litres of Castrol 10W-40 A3/B4 poured into the engine, checked for leaks and sump cover refitted, service light reset and we're ready for another summer, bring on the sunshine ☀️☀️☀️

Checked the oil level today and it doesn't get much closer than that...

On Tuesday when I was out in the 850 there was a terrible rattle coming from somewhere on the passenger side, it wasn't there last year before I tucked the car away for the winter but I had noticed it a few times this year and it was getting worse so I decided to investigate. Pressing different parts of the door card gave various noises and my initial thought was the door bin as most of the noise seemed to be coming from around there. I removed the door card and started dismantling it. The door bin top fixing was broken so I used epoxy glue and reattached it, I then used Tesa tape to cover all the surfaces that would come in contact when I put it back together. My attention then turned to the interior door handle, all the fixings for the recess cover were snapped off and I carefully epoxied them back into place, the handle mechanism itself was held in by one bolt and the others were loose so I tightened them. Next day when putting the recess cover back on the fixings all snapped off so I need to get new covers, I think I may have found some NOS but waiting to hear confirmation. I temporarily put it all back together and the recess cover is just placed in. Went for a drive this evening and I'm pleased to say the 850 is quiet as a mouse inside now, no squeaks, no rattles, it's wonderful.

Top fixing of door bin epoxied on

Tesa tape applied to all contact surfaces

Handle recess pins hack didn't work out

All nice and quiet again ( SWMBO was operating the camera whilst I was driving)

If my memory serves me correctly the rears are the same as the fronts so, if you fail to source new ones, you may get good'uns from a breaker. A saloon may also have less activity in and around the rear doors

Thanks for the heads-up on the Tesa Tape...must get some of that!

It only took me 3 years to find them and an hour to fit...
I still have one to replace on the back door driver side but as I don't sit in there and won't see it very often I'm not in a hurry to change it...

NOS light grey handle recess inserts

Passenger side that I tried glueing a few weeks ago and failed

A tentative moment tightening the nuts onto the pegs

Passenger side sorted

No before picture as it was similar to other side. Driver side now sorted

Thanks Baffler, sometimes shiny bits are not required

Well I decided I may as well do the rear door and I wish I didn't. Removing the rear window winder crank handle cover was a pain in the butt, removing the retaining clip was even worse but the job is now done and all the recess inserts are in perfect condition until the next one cracks

When I removed the window winder handle to fit the door handle inserts I was a bit ham fisted and broke the cover catch which wasn't a big problem as Volvo still supply replacements. I also decided to fit a new winder retaining clip as the original got a little out of shape when removing it. The parts came directly from Sweden and took 10 days from ordering until they arrived at my local dealership. Great service from Volvo for a car that was designed over 30 years ago.
