I renewed the tax on the convertible yesterday and everything worked faultlessly. The speed at which they processed my payment was obscene

Interestingly you were a day late..... I did mine on the 31/03 to start on 01/04 and therefore swerved the 10% price hike. There was also a note that said they were carrying out system maintenance last weekend so you should expect some disruption.

I actually did try to tax it on 31st and it gave me the option of taxing from beginning of March or beginning of April. I chose April, filled in my payment at least 6 or 7 times and got the 'Card not Authorised' message each time. I got the same 'Card not Authorised' message another 5 or 6 times the next morning before it eventually went through at the hiked up rate.

My thinking too Dean, possibly to get the extra revenue...
I pushed the 850 out of the garage and gave it a wash to get rid of the dirt accumulated over the winter months of sitting in the garage. Next I poured a bottle of Forte petrol treatment into the tank, drove to the filling station and filled it with E5 ready for its first drive (excluding the MOT). I headed to Hillington to see Cameron at CCC to have the rear exhaust hanger sorted as it was starting to look a bit thin. He told me to come back in a few hours and he would sort it out for me. I then drove to Cambuslang and had Willie at Keep Kool re-gas the air con, it's 3 years since it was last serviced and was still working but I decided it was due a service. Once part filled the engine was started and the compressor wouldn't kick in, so some checks with a 12v tester showed power not reaching the compressor, Willie suspected the pressure sensor stuck so told me to take the car for a drive with the AC off and try after 15-20 minutes. So 20 minutes later I turned on the AC and it started working, went back to Keep Kool and the gas was topped off and it's all working fine. Back to CCC and Cameron cut the rusty old hanger off, fabricated new ones from stainless steel and welded them in place. Washed and ready for a 61 mile drive around today Old rusty hanger getting a bit thin and I didn't want it breaking. Picture taken after being cut New hanger fitted and ready for another 26+ years

Sad day as I watched my XC90 drive off with its new owner
The other day when out in the 850 I noticed the remote wasn't working, when I returned home I fitted new CR1220 batteries and when I pushed the button the audible click was happening multiple times on a single push. I pulled it apart today and gave the circuit board a spray with switch cleaner. All back together now and normal operation has resumed

Took the 850 out for a drive this evening to warm up the oil ready for a service. Back home and the sump plug removed and left to drain overnight
Oil left to drain overnight Last oil change was 5th April 2020 at 59,061 miles Now 3 years on I'm at at 61,962 miles, a total of 2901 miles, that's plenty... Not forgetting the new sump plug washer

Will you be changing your username now the XC90 has moved on? One extremely happy new owner I imagine.

Oops, apologies for the large pics, must have missed them when resizing...
@ Baffler. I washed the XC90 on Wednesday in the rain and left it out overnight, on Thursday I spent a couple of hours polishing it and swapping over winter to summer wheels then put it back in the garage and it sat there until the chap arrived yesterday. I gave him the keys and let him do a cold start. He drove the car out the garage a distance of 20 feet and said I'll but it, surely the shortest test drive ever. Paperwork exchanged and he drove off heading down to Blackpool for the night before heading further south to his home tomorrow
