...well, it has a redblock.
Relative to the 544 this one will have an even smaller pool of potential buyers. I can't really think of anyone that might be interested in this at any price; perhaps I just lack imagination?

:-)
Bidding on the red 240 ends today, so we will be put out of our misery. I can't help thinking we may see this one again next week; I do so hope I'm wrong.

He’s sold another barn find within the last six months, so probably not a bereavement in his family.
A bit like Grandad’ s Barge!🤔

Perhaps the seller should have put ‘Barn Find’ in the title?

Take one of these over a forward control Land Rover any day: More exclusive and portal axles, in case you hit a really big kerb. This is a real off-road tool, ergo maximum kudos at the local.4x4 club meet.

Or get a 110 and be like every fifth house on the street?

I'd never heard of a 'forward control Land Rover' - they always were called the 'One Tunney' in the military - and were mostly used by RA units for towing the 105mm light gun.

I can't imagine myself coveting kudos at a 4x4 club, and my point remains I don't think there would be many others seeking a 45 year old, bashed around LHD truck that probably wouldn't manage 10 MPG either. I think the price is almost arbitrary, if it was £2,000 the number of interested parties would be much the same. The seller might as well leave the asking price at £20,000 in case one of the 3 people in the country that might buy a vehicle like this comes along.

I suppose we'll see if this bargain gets snapped up by some fortunate punter on the next 89 minutes (or perhaps not).

… have you ever driven one of these? We had them in the military (mostly RA units for towing guns). They were fast but had a reputation for turning over quite easily and damaging the crews. For military use the Humvee was much more versatile, but neither would be much use for shopping at Waitrose :-)

All true.

I went to look at a Haflinger but it had already been sold. The vendor had a Pinzgauer and asked if I'd like to give it ago. It was brilliant, insofar as it dealt with terrain our Land Rover couldn't touch. It very quickly went from interesting to 'do we have to' when we got on the public highway.

Our lad lives in the Eifel. Were I to move out there, I think I'd go for a first generation Fiat Panda 4x4 or a Lada Niva for shopping in the winter.

When i dropped the RB at its new home in Selkirk its new stablemate was a Pinzgauer:

... amongst others :-).

Very few people in the UK need a proper 4x4, almost all the ones I see around (BMW X5s and so on) would be completely unsuited for use off a metalled road. They mostly seem to be used for dropping kids at school and shopping at Waitrose.

:-)
