Well tax runs out in a week, then it becomes a liability, so perhaps a £100 Dutch auction daily reduction might see it a new owner in time?

- 2002 Ford Excursion Limousine, 27ft long
- 1929 Morris Oxford 3/4 Doctor's coupe
He/she seems to specialise in odd stuff. I'm guessing he/she purchases stock from winding-up and estate probate sales; perhaps that is where the red 240 came from.

If I'd just bought a motor car from him/her with no MoT I don't think that would make me confident that it was a good one :-).
... and as if by magic, here is our friend the red motor car with no MoT that 'sold' for £3,100' just last week again:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/255791606...sAAOSwQv1jVZyY

So, now we know it was shill bidding that got the price up last time round. The seller is a very experienced dealer in mechanical bric-a-brac, and so probably has a number of spare eBay accounts, therefore we might see the same again: so far the auction has been running for 9 hours and has received 10 bids from 6 different bidders and has reached £880. The auction started just after 9 pm last eve (Sunday), perhaps I'm too cynical, but I can't help thinking the seller is throwing all his/her spare eBay accounts at this one.

I'm guessing the reserve will be something like £2,500 again, so we may see shill bidding up to that fairly quickly whilst the seller fishes for a genuine buyer above.

Am I too cynical? I still think the motor car is worth £1,500, so perhaps not.

Alan

PS. People may think me too cynical, but I can't help thinking this is shill bidding again, the first bid was at 10:17:03pm BST on Sunday eve, followed by 9 more by 11:32:20pm BST. I'm just not convinced there are 6 chaps/ladies still up looking at Ebay late on a Sunday eve searching for an old Volvo with no MoT. Ten competing bids in 76 minutes - that is a veritable frenzy. Ho hum.

I wouldn't say they attempted it I'd say they well and truly completed it and made a great job of it too from what I saw of it in the metal.

Money isn't the be all and end all of everything, I could have bought a bloated blob that is faster and better handling than my 940 to begin with but I have no interest in such office chairs just as I imagine all of these other modified Volvo owners don't that this forum seems to enjoy slating. Why making an old Volvo handle well and go fast is such a waste of time and money to some people is ridiculous, everyone has different tastes in cars, the retro rides forum rules has one key rule that is very good "if you have nothing nice to say then say nothing" which is why the forum and show are the best around.

Yes they could have bought a lexus but then they would have a lexus that's got a turbo stuck on it and that's not what the builder had in mind.

The words "built not bought" spring to mind.

We are in violent agreement in that 'everyone has different tastes in cars' Luke.

I certainly didn't mean any offence, and I thought I'd made it clear in the piece above that it was just my opinion (for what that is worth) that this type of modification doesn't have much value. I'm a tightwad though, and if I wanted a fast car that handled well I would buy a cooking motor car and warm it up - I'd buy a Porsche to start with: that is safer, more reliable and cheaper in the long run (and the reason I do have a Porsche).

I have no view whatsoever whatever on what other folk spend their money on; I suppose we'll see whether the market agrees with me or not if the modified 240 estate sells at £12,000 (or not).

Good discussion,

Alan

Ah yes, the motor car probably only has enough MoT left to drive it home and jack it up for the winter before the Romanian scrap guy comes to collect it next year.

You are right: this time next week it won't have any real value and so may end up with the banger racing chap for £300, which is perhaps better than Camden Borough Council charging £300 to pick it up.

:-)

Addendum: I've just looked up the motor car's MoT history and have to correct myself: the test ran out on 19 October (not in November as the seller claims), so it already has no real value. I think it is a bit cheeky for the seller to place a reserve; he/she will be paying Camden Council to take it away soon :-).

It can’t be left on the highway with no MOT, that’s for sure.

I’m finding it hard to believe that a potential buyer of a 240 would not be on this forum and aware of the opinions on here.
I’m not saying they don’t have the right to ignore everyone, of course they have, it’s just that they’ve been quiet.

Hey-ho!🤔
