Bot warmer today, and the postie finally delivered my brake hoses and bolts various. Swapped the brake hoses first as access was very easy with all the suspension removed, then new trailing arm and shock fitted. Then taken off again as I forgot to fit the spring....Fortunately no bolts tightened as I wanted to do them in the loaded position which was achieved by jacking the axle up. Nearside done and I started stripping the offside. It's been well soaked with penetrating oil but the lower shock bolt wasn't moving even with the big rattle gun, so angle grinder applied. The remainder came off with thumper.
The old bush was well and truly shot, with the rubber bursting through the top of the shell. Grinder time and then a big hammer and cold chisel to break the old one out before pressing in the replacement with a floodlight to see what I was doing. Called it a day there, nearly done.

The replacement centre bearing arrived so this morning an opportunity to cut the old one off and fit the new, in between keeping 4 dogs occupied (we have a 4th greyhound staying for a week). The old ones seals were shot and the bearing full of grit, so glad I swapped it out. Also had to grind the spring retaining nut off the offside trailing arm, the small spot weld had broken off so was just spinning round. Suitable replacement bolt sourced from the spares drawer.
All ready to go back together now, hoping the sun stays out this afteroon and the dogs settle after a walk so I can get it back on it's wheels....

Well nearly there, 4 dogs take up lots of time! All bolted up, just need to bleed the rear brakes and then we are done. For now anyway.

All finished, and a test drive done. What a difference some bushes and a pair of new shocks makes, so much nicer.
Back up on axle stands again at the moment, I freed off the fill and drain for the diff so waiting for the old oil to drain out and will replace it this afternoon. That will be the 240 done for the year, the V70R will be on the drive next for new headlights and drone noise hunting....

And tea break time. The trusty Tors is back on all 4 wheels with fresh fluid in diff to replace the treacle that came out. Mechanically now in excellent shape, and TBH the bodywork is very reasonable too, only the lip of the rear arches being a bit crusty as is the norm. Back to work as a DIY load/dog lugger!

A quick call to the local garage for MOT availability, and Grace was booked in for this afternoon. Passed with no advisories, happy days.

Well after 3 years, and lots of fun, it would seem that Grace may well be have to be sold. We parted company with the motorhome today, and now need a suitable machine for shifting what will soon be 4 big dogs. On the surface the 240 estate is perfect, but at 30 years old SWMBO is not keen on the idea of longer trips even though I am, and with the V70 also on the drive it seems that will be kept, pending no doubt something like a Galaxy. Not new mind, but about half the age of Grace.
I'll do some pictures and add it to the for sale section in due course.
