Changed the gearbox torque mount which was becoming a little tired, did two sump dump and refills for the geartronic gearbox of my XC to address the very slight harshness to some downshifts when hot( possibly also related to the mount) - much better now but I'll do a couple more in a few weeks - mainly due to the dark colour of the fluid. Took the opportunity, since the airbox had to be moved to get to the gearbox filler, to replace the pasenger side xenon bulb which was starting to change colour. Then vowed to take up voodoo to send a curse to the design team who came up with the method of holding the xenon bulbs in place!

pics can be uploaded using https://imgbb.com/ drag the pic onto the first page, choose 'don't auto delete' and then choose 'BB code full linked' and copy/paste the code, add that into your comment on here every now and then it adds a bit of code for advertising you can delete that try and keep pics to max. 1000x1000 pixels or they get a bit too big to view easily |

MOT, passed as expected but one advisory I'd totally forgotten about .. nearside shaft outer gaiter split and starting to spit out grease. Oops. Did a temporary repair about 6 months ago so I guess that's not bad considering
Weighing up the options of stretchy cone-fit gaiter vs buying a new shaft.. seeing as it's all taken apart either way might as well just replace it? |

Don't know about the EU but good replacement shafts were scarce here well before the pandemic.
Consider rebooting a good Volvo shaft vs replacement with a cheap unit because it's the only one available. Last edited by Georgeandkira; May 14th, 2022 at 13:00. |

I found a stretchy boot and cone that seems to be the right size for £40 all in with delivery and a new axle bolt, seems reasonable
Now just need to add the 3 or 4 hours of my time to get to it and do the fix The shaft is fine I'm sure at this mileage, not making any noise and the leak of grease was minimal before, then topped up when repaired, and only just started to leak out again Last edited by stuart bowes; May 14th, 2022 at 18:43. |
