I did the SC-802 hack the other day and I'm chuffed with the results!

As space was a bit tight between the underside of the mainboard and the outer casing of the stereo, I soldered the 10uF25V capacitors to a piece of project circuit board in the void where the tape deck sits and ran three cables (L,R,GRND) round to the underside. This pretty much eliminates the chance of short circuits and makes the hack look much neater!

I soldered (rather than merely clamping) the ground to one of the earthing points on the mainboard - there are loads of them dotted about.

It's a bit fiddly but I also ran a female phono to male stereo jack cable from the rear of the unit (where the soldered phono cables exit) down underneath the heated seat switches, past the gear lever and handbrake and out into the cubby box.

Lifting the little flap that hides the handbrake adjuster and then removing the two hex-head screws underneath allows the entire centre console to be lifted enough to get a small hand inside to feed the cable through.

It works brilliantly - I just wish I had the SC-901 and Dynaudio speakers now!

nice one

the main reason i did the hack with the rear ports, is because I wanted some sort of rear connection for my Ipod kit, but as you have shown, it is easily adaptable to fit some sort of extension.

One other mod i planned, was to fit the 3.5mm jack, to the coin holder section just under the ashtray, and you could plug in direct there, but the arm rest is a good place, that is where my Ipod goes

as for the 901, I should have a test one any day now, once hacked, i will report here, if indeed it is possible..

as of yet, I have been unable to fully hack the 805 and 605.

ok, today i have examined a donated SC-901. It is NOT possible to carry out this hack on that unit.

Hi,

What's the problem with the hack in the SC-805? In page 17, post 166, I get the idea that you was able to do it.

I'm thincking of doing this in one of my 3 spare headunits. I have a SC-805, a SC-900 and the one that is like the SC-805 but without the cd player.

The SC-900 is similar to the SC-901, so I think it wont be possible, right?

Between the SC-805 and the other one that is equal but without the cd, any advantages on the last one over the 805?

Thanks!

you CAN hack the 805 yes, but not to the extent I do the 801. You can hack the 805 by using the method you have seen, but you need to leave the cassette unit installed, and have a blank dummy cassette in and in play mode. This kinds of defeats the objective, as you may as well use a tape convertor?

the hack on the 801/802 removes the cassette unit completly, and connects the AUX direct onto the sound points on the circuit board. That way, you eliminate the issues of hiss/crackle with tape adapters or blank tapes running.

So when I say it can;t be hacked, i mean in the essense of a FULL QUALITY hack.

This is the same for the HU units. You can hack them, if you are prepared to leave a blank tape in.

I recently found the 900/901 is the same, however, i am always messing with the test units I have to try and figure out a way, so you never know.

Thanks for the reply

The problem with the tape convertor is the sound is not that good and the cable cames from the front of the radio which it's not very esthetical

Does it need a tape, or I can just leave the tape "bay" down, and disable the tape eject button?

i Dont believe you can do that on the 805, as it uses a run detect system. the 801 you can, but not too sure on the 805, you would have to test it

Smile Thanks

Credit where credit is due, thank you to all that have contributed to this thread, especially 'bobbych'
I have just completed this 'mod' and i am very pleased with the result.
Personally, I have connected the AUX input to a Nokia CK-100 car kit which was already fitted. So I now stream my music from my iPhone 4 via Bluetooth A2DP Profile, wirelessly.
I could listen to music before, but the amplifier in the car kit is only 2 Watts and struggled to say the least.
For anyone else considering this, give it a go, I am no electronic technician, I've soldered a couple of times before, it's well worth the effort.
Thanks again.

i used the hack on my sc-801 headunit, works fine. but i havent got any sound on the left side ( driver´s seat ).

this appears only on the tape and the hack. the radio and CD changer deliver sound to front left right and back.

any solutions?
