I think Chris has ruled that way of doing it out John, favouring the approach of his son is the policyholder with him as a named driver which i understand has brought it down to about £1750 ish.

This also keeps things legal from a main/named driver point of view on the insurance too.

A few years back, i added a female friend of mine to my Volvo policy, i was under 50 at the time and she was a little over (can't give a ladys age away entirely! ) and it brought the premium down - she's still on the policy for the same reason i originally put her on and even though i'm this side of the half-century, she still brings the premium down.

Same as OE spec so no worries on future cooling so i'd hazard a guess the Colt needs a new rad as well.
That Colt didn't receive any bids on eBay Dave (the chap was trying to start the auction at £1200). I'm not really surprised, I think Ed China would have been furious if Mike Brewer had taken that one back to the workshop :-)

Stay safe.

No real surprise on that Alan, £500 would be nearer the mark as i think we discussed further back in the thread. Probably more Gus Gregory and Will Tricketts mark but at definitely less than a grand for them.

It never ceases to amaze me how much people think their old tat is worth. I'm not sure even Gus and Will could have made a profit on this one if they had bought it for £500 :-)

Very true Alan, the only way to make profit on that Colt at £500 would be to do all the repairs yourself, run it for 2-3 years to get your moneys worth out of the repairs then sell it as a going concern with a fresh MoT after.

In that time, it would have to be hoped the value of the car would go up in general so even with its little foibles (bolster on drivers seat etc) the overall worth of the car would have increased proportionately.
In its present condition, even with evrything sorted mechanically so it's A1 mechanically, i think £1200 would be top dollar on it. Sort the arches , seat and whatever else and somewhere between £15-2000 but it would probably cost another grand to do that all properly.

I'd agree with that entirely Dave. The seller seemed to think it might be worth £4,000, but I think he must have been smoking the crack pipe a bit too much.

If it was a couple of years younger it would just be a £100 MoT failure, because it is getting closer to the 40 year mark it probably has some value to someone - but only if he really wants to drive a Mitsubishi Colt as a classic car (it is a bit Ali G in my humble opinion).

It is hard to know how extensive the chassis welding would be, but that could cost £500 on its own, then there are the rusty wheel arches and probably sills to deal with. If the metal has to be fabricated that could be another £700 - and I suspect after that much of the car would need re-painting. The driver's seat needs re-covering, maybe a couple of hundred and there are bound to be a myriad of other jobs just because the car has been standing for 6 years...

Some cars of that era (maybe VW Golf, Ford Escort)would be worth saving, but not a Colt.

Stay safe,

Alan

Not bad for a restored Dodge Challeneger Alan!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dodge_...8%E2%80%931983)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitsubishi_Sapporo

However that one is badged as the Mitsubishi Sapporo UK model so i doubt you would get away with trying to sell it as a Dodge Challenger here!

No bids on that Mitsubishi Sapporo Dave. It looked like a nicely restored car, but £8000 is quite a lot.

Stay safe,

Alan
