People carrier > ocean liner > aircraft carrier > people carrier > aircraaft are catapulted off aircrafts carriers > can we catapult people off people carriers? I prefer to use the term "people containers" (popularised by a Mrs Malaprop type character in one of the soaps i believe) or "mobile sardine tins" and was stuck behind one earlier. A Seat Alhambra aka VW Sharan and Ford Galaxy, driving just fast enough to make overtaking tricky but not fast enough to be traveling at a reasonably good speed. I would have cheerfully catapulted that thing off the face of the planet at the time. I think the actual group of vehicles is MPV or Multipurpose Vehicle, in this country at least. Our USA cousins seem to call them "minivans" not to be confused with the Minivans" we hd some 50+ years ago. Agreed though, "People Carrier" would be a good umbrella heading for all types of passenger vehicles, whether land, sea or air or combination thereof (thinking amphibious vehicles, hydrofoils and similar now, just for fun!) and i think it was an over-enthusiastic motoring journo that coined the term "people carrier" while reviewing the Renault Espace. For some reason, that term stuck.

Reckon a few bottles of gas and a mile of welding wire might get this one sorted. Perhaps. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/165647547696 Looks completely rotten from the door bottoms down. Last edited by BicycleBoy; Aug 27th, 2022 at 23:42. |

Apropos overtaking, I was told that a safe overtake requires a 20mph speed difference which is why the Anti-Destination League's (copyright Car and Driver magazine) members potter along at 45mph on roads where the national speed limit applies.

I was also told by my driving instructor many moons ago you can briefly exceed the speed limit to overtake safely as long as you return to the speed limit as soon as it's safe to do so. As such, those Anti-Destination League members are simply being fools to themselves, wasting their own fuel by driving at too low a speed for their engines to be efficient.

The country is full of people who think their Amazon is worth £30,000, their 140 is £25,000 or their 240 is £15,000 - but in the real world good prices for those three models are £10,000, £7,000 and £5,000. I think I noticed the ten Virgo alloy wheels sold for about £150, which I thought was quite cheap. :-)

I see the S90 royal has come down from £17,500 to £13,500 and is now £10,500. I think that will still be waiting a long time for a buyer.
