I know about the same time as my Cherokee was bilt they also added the Verona Motorri (VM) diseasel to the range, as also used in Range Rovers, Alfa Romeos, Rover 800s and a few others in various states of tune, with and without turbos.

The XC90/S80 V8 would go nicely in my 760 i reckon
85 Renegade. Pic from when I was an apprentice, Cape York northern Queensland. 1990.

Yes, 315hp V8 would push a Amazon along nicely too. 👍😀

If I was to engine swap an Amazon it would be a B230FK/T with an M90 gearbox, H beam rods etc big turbo and away you go for over 300hp and it is still a redblock. The other engine of choice would be a T5 or T6 but a cologne engine! Wouldn't even enter my mind as a possible choice ever!

Mattias Vocks built the Guy Martin Amazon, he's also built a couple of other old Volvos and did the famous P1800 rendering.

A mate and I started going down that route a few years back, had it all mocked up, laser cut and welded engine mounts, intake mocked up etc but then pulled the plug. We didn't think it would be that nice a street engine so the plan is to super charge a B20. I started designing the engine requirements but that is as far as I got but that is the plan for the car eventually (Amazon Estate). Low to mid range torque is what I'm after. A stroked Tinus Tuning B20 is the other option but a lot of cash required. A Amazon and a 140 properly set-up drives beautifully and is well underpowered from stock in my opinion.
