In relation to the milage they do I don't think the Vredstiens work out expensive. You can expect around 60,000 miles if you let them wear them down to 2mm. Plus much shorter braking distances in the wet, ice and snow.

Good point.

I'm aware of their credentials in the wet and snow; are they also quiet and comfortable?

I didn't notice any difference in noise or comfort to the original ones it came with.

Been following the thread, local indie tyre dealer will fit 4x Toyos for £110 all in, plus full 4 wheel laser/bluetooth alignment for £50 plus VAT, tyre prices seem to have gone up over the last few months, does anyone have any feedback regards the Toyos please, as £110 each seems very fair. Tow caravan but otherwise priorities are tyre life and reasonable comfort, not off road very much at all. Thanks

Girlfriend's XC90 was running close to legal on front tyres so we bought four Wintrac 4 Xtremes, £472.86 inlcuding delivery from www.clickontyres.com. Will get a local garage to fit them for me.

Weather is pretty warm at the moment but I'm sure in a few weeks that will change! Will see how they go in the winter, and then in the spring decide whether or not to buy some more summer tyres or just run them the whole year round.

Hi, i'm a new XC90 owner and have read this sticky with interest. Can anyone running the wintrac extremes allyear round comment on tyre life? Specifically how many miles they last? I've run winter tyres in the summer before and they died in under 5000 miles on a standard fwd car so am worried about them in the summer on the awd xc. I've found a couple of posts online about the xtremes wearing hevily in warmer wetaher but one member on here (Roy?) mentioned they run them all year round.

Thanks

My wear rate is 1mm per 10,000 miles, so 60,000 miles if you wear them down to the legal limit. That's using Volvo's eco pressure of 40psi.

You should run winter tyres at higher pressures anyway, could that be why your other tyres wore out quickly? Under pressurised tyres age three times faster than tyres at the correct pressure.

Shelf life unfitted for tyres is 17 years.

At correct pressure on a car, 10 years max.

Under inflated on a car, 3 and a bit years max.

I don't think I could go as high as 40psi.

My tyres were 32psi when I first got it and I inflated them to 38psi. It handles better and hopefully I won't get any wear on the shoulders, but the ride is noticeably harder which is a shame.

The Volvo eco setting is actually 39 psi but I just rounded it up as the Vredstien web site said they should be inflated slightly above the vehicle manufactures recommendations.

I doubt you'd notice a difference between 38 and 40 psi though.
