We've only had one Polestar car on our dyno so far, here's a quick comparison.

It's worth noting that remapping your car by any other provider other than Polestar will invalidate your warranty. If any customer has a problem with a car with our software installed, then we will offer assistance in talks with a dealer, but we do not offer a "warranty" that covers parts or labour. We've never had cause to offer one either, we don't take cars beyond or even near their limits at Stage 1 (our map makes 217hp at Stage 1 and my 80,000 mile car is running at 237hp/600Nm on totally standard 80,000 mile old hardware without a problem).

shark90: I sent a message on your website asking about remapping a 2.5d s80, but no reply as of yet. I'd be looking for a map to hopefully increase economy more than power - is this possible? if so what sort of price would I be looking at?

Thx
Chris

Hi Chris

When did you send your enquiry? I'll check whether we received it.

The older 2.5TDI engine is no problem to us but the car will need to come to us in Mansfield as your ECU requires replacement chips. Generally economy increases after our remap but it depends on the type of driving that you do, our customers usually quote around a 10% improvement.

I sent the message yesterday (after seeing your post on here). Mansfield is no problem, I live in Lincs and am often passing that way.

OK, I'll take a look in the morning. We do usually get a lot of enquiries over the weekend, and they're all replied to in order so it'll probably be there awaiting a reponse.

Does a remap actually incease the mpg ? Or is the on board computer fooled? On my Merc the OBC showed a 2-3 mpg improvement but in the real world it was about the same.

Much nicer to drive though.

If the remap is done properly (rare) then yes, any increase you see will be real. The reason your car showed an increase but you didn't see it at the pumps is because a quick and easy way to get extra power from a diesel is to mess around with the injector calibration maps, which make the car inject x% more fuel all the time. The problem with this is that the OBC doesn't know about this modification and therefore calculates the injected amount incorrectly. As the OBC calculates injected fuel vs distance driven, it's easy to see how they get confused and over-read.

We write our maps properly and the ECU therefore knows exactly how much fuel it's injecting, and so OBC readings won't be any further out than they ever were.

I suppose that supports the maxim "you get what you pay for".

Sounds as though the type you described is the £200 category whereas if you want it done properly then you have to pay proper money. I'm gathering that the reason Polestar is even more expensive is that Volvo take a cut to underwrite the warranty. Plus the dealers profit. But like yours it's a properly done remap.
