You are trying to receive a freeview digital TV signal via the original analogue front end so the system is compromised as the aerials are not designed for the task now presented with.

Get a Digital freeview aerial (or two if the receiver supports twin aerials) and install them to sit high up in the rear windows. Two aerials are better than one assuming the receiver is designed for this as it can switch between the two which maintains a better picture in town/ city/ built up areas - Mike

I bet my last penny that the Volvo aerials will be better I just need to figure out the power!

Digital TV is over the same frequencies, well less actually, standard aerials will be absolutely fine, it's not some kind of 'witchcraft' digital.

I'd definitely rather use the four I already have in the window.

This may be a daft question, but with regards to the power source, rather than splicing on to the rear cigarette lighter, would it be possible to splice into the power source to the Volvo TV tuner?

Not a daft question at all - if you find which one it is then take a pic and let us all know

Default Thank you gazza

Just wanted to post up a huge THANK YOU to Gazza for all of this.

I bought the parts to convert my car two or so years ago but only actually got round to fitting it last weekend, took about a day much of it was spent working out how to get access to things in the car, and route wires. I used the stock aerial that comes with the digibox (which I don't think is powered) and got a signal! Now got telly back in the car, forgot how much it puts a grin on yer face

My screen seems a bit dim, but I haven't yet played with the contrast/brightness, and I think I need to solder the aerial connections as I think there is signal loss in the cable connectors. Speaking of which, looking at the wiring diagrams, I feel certain that it must be possible to use the car's existing powered aerials. It must be case of joining them into the loop. Will have a play and report back.

The RF out I just cut the plug off and using some 5amp elecrtical connectors striped back the coax and joined thus . . .

Note you only need to cut one brown wire . . Make sure your brown wire is NOT to close to the plug you want a good 4"

Vince where do you live ?
