I think the USB can be specced separately to the base system.

When you play the iPod through it is it just straight sound from the iPod through the radio to the speaker system or is it possible that you can read what is on your iPod from the car display?

Has it a USB connection and input jack in the glove box?

Is your car definitely the S model not SE
Nope it's just a basic jack to jack system through the aux input which is inside the centre armrest. I just have a playlist on my iphone/ipod which I leave to play away to itself.

By the way my car is a 'S' model on a 09 plate (1/3/09).

Are you saying that the model year 2011 "ES" spec car has got USB interface in the glove box along with the jack plug only originally supplied with the 2010 model "S”?

Where is that information as I don’t read that in my model year 2011 price list?

I was just wondering if there are any S owners out there who are using with the basic system that are unhappy with it?

I test drove the R-Design and it had the basic hifi and I thought it sounded excellent. But like others I wanted the IPOD interface and since I like my music loud when I'm alone in the car the SE was our choice. I listen to a lot of acoustic and it had plenty of base which sound natural. I tried a live album that I have seen performed and the balance was spot on.

Yes I am sure it will be fine for me as I listen to radio 4 90% of the time and radio 2 if I can stand the DJ!!!

Strangely my liking of music is wide and varied and I prefer it “how it comes” on the radio to having a load of favourites on CD or IPod that I listen to constantly. For some reason I get bored with the same artist after the novelty has worn off of their first few good tracks. I do have a selection of CDs that I can play if I feel the need but it’s not often, just prefer to be surprised by the odd (or many) good varied tracks on the radio.
I think what happens on this forum is you hear folks specking things up to the eyeballs and you start to wonder if your “standard model “ will be adequate for just basic listening . We are talking about a car that ends up at about 30K retail plus so one should expect a decent radio in it. I just put the question out to see if I got any response that the standard system was poor from anyone that had one.
