Don't suppose you know anyone with a similar car who might not plan on driving it for an hour or two, do you?

If you go 2nd hand, before you fit them I'd go all around the seams with silcone sealant to stop moisture getting in and misting up on the inside

VIDA should tell you part numbers or you could try having a look on scandix which has part numbers as well, I've worked things out that way before

I just tried Scandix but they've only got LHD headlights so I can't check the code. I've got high hopes for these V70 ones I've seen on eBay so I'll keep digging. I'm waiting a call back from the main dealer, if they're in a good mood they might be able to let me know the proper model number, what other models they're used on and what years will fit.

If I get some secondhand ones I'll go round the seams with clear silicone.

If I strike out there's a friendly independant Volvo specialist near me. His car park looks like a scrapyard at times. He might be able to liberate some lights from one of the cars and fit them.

Second hand units seem to vary between £60 and £250 , possibly dependent upon condition
Thanks, mine is a 2004 car I've got a feeling it's pre-facelift. I don't know them well enough to know for sure but from looking on wikipedia one of the main visual differences is that the pre-facelift have headlight wipers whereas the post facelift don't have the wiper but have washers instead.

Yes, exactly that - glass vs plastic lenses.

Thanks, if they're glass lenses are they less likely/won't at all go cloudy?

The second hand set I'm looking at look identical to mine. I'm waiting back on two Volvo dealership's parts departments to check the part numbers now.

Yes, given a choice, most would be with glass previous-gen lenses, I'm sure

won't at all

a definite benefit of the pre-cost-cutting era. a fair compromise for the crap throttle bodies amongst other things lol

I've spoken with the last owner, he said his garage covered the lights with tape for the MOT so that might be an option.

I checked my lights, the part numbers are:

8693547 - LHD LHS

8693548 - LHD RHS

If anyone has a prefacelift XC70 would they be able to check the part numbers? They're visible from above on my car with the bonnet open and without getting your hands dirty. I'm 90% sure the V70s use the same lights, and I've found some second hand online that look reasonable but I'd like to be sure before I buy them.

when I bought a new drivers side for mine it was 8693552 (checked my ebay history)

it seems I got lucky and paid £40, it was a bit grubby but once cleaned, perfect condition

glass type, basic halogen lamps (with the level adjuster which I think is probably standard for all?)

so by a process of trying different numbers the passenger side turns out to be 8693551

various ebay results are coming up for both

whether that matches the XC I couldn't confirm im afraid

Thanks Stuart, someone from Volvo parts got back to me. They gave me 8693571 and 8693572. So the numbers are quite close but not quite the same.

I missed out on the ones on eBay but they were a completely different number.
