How good are you at measuring? It is possible to do without dropping the subframe IF you can work out the right angle from the footwell. Yes I went through the floor from inside the car put an extension bar through and popped the socket on. That was still a PITA to do though and don't look forward to the day I need to do it on the current T4.

Bare in mind, you need to cut the old rubber bush out the mount to place over these bushes. It's a pain but it's how I did it. I aquired an old front arb set to prepare them beforehand.
Thanks matt even cheaper than the ebay ones, I'm going to get my garage to fit them I think mate just bite the bullet it won't have to be done again. Be a lot easier for them to do. Even though I broddy hate taking my car in. Would it be worth getting a spare arb then.

You don't need the bar just the bush mounts. I would as you can give them like that to the garage and less chance they **** it up

My mechanic dropped the sub frame on my 2004 S40. Cost me 170 dollars US. I would have done it but a hoist is almost mandatory!

Here is a JPEG of the underside of the sub frame showing the bushing bolt and how little room there is to do the job. Hence dropping of the sub frame.
The captured nut is spot welded to the frame. I'll upload a pic of the top side soon....

Managed to replace the drivers side bush yesterday, didn't drop the subframe, removed the steering tie rod to give a bit more room and used a tiny ratchet. I had sprayed the bolt every couple of days for a couple of weeks with wd40 to give it plenty of time to penetrate.Anyhow, an inordinate amount of patience is required, it's impossible to see what you are doing once your arm is in the way and a helper (the wife) will be able to guide you from above. In the end it took hours to do but is doable.
