I've just swapped my '97 V70. I had full twin towing electrics fitted by a towbar firm which were spliced in and worked fine without affecting anything. Don't think I'll be risking it on my '04 new one though, looks like a prewired loom. Good Luck.

Thanks for that.

Was it just spliced into one of the back light clusters?

Woohoo!!

Well today i thought b****x to it, im going to splice into the wiring and see what happens. Everything works perfectly and no bulb failure light!

I assume this is correct; when the trailer board is plugged in, the hazard flasher on the IC (2 arrows in a box) flashes when the indicators are operated-an alternative to a buzzer?

Sooooooo pleased ive saved myself £70

Yes, you should have some alternative indication to show that there is a trailer/'van attached and the indicators are working on it.
Usually a flashing light and buzzer.

If fully incorporated into the Volvo electrics then there can be an additional dash warning light just for this...

Maybe i wrote it wrong, but, with the wiring spliced it still picks up that something is connected (in my case a thule bike rack) and the light on the dash flashes! So much for proper electrics!

If there is something plugged into the socket, thats what is supposed to happen!
You have an auxiliary set of lights and plate when the bike rack is fitted?

Yeah but it even picks up the light board even with it spliced in! Anyway doesnt matter!

I have a Thule bike rack that clamps onto the towball and the bikes sit on it with their wheels and it has a built in light board at the bottom, take a look;

Its a great bit of kit and very handy for going to bike races as the boot is free for all the other kit
