Thank you all very much for the advice; Alan, your knowledge and tips are always very detailed and helpful!
I have made a note of the spark plugs and leads to buy, will add them to my basket. The timing belt looks (from the paperwork) to have last been changed 20,000 miles ago - however, this was in 2013. Has anyone got a link (or part number) to the correct belt to purchase? I will also change the aux belts at the same time (again, a P/N or link would be most helpful). I've always been hesitant to do the belts myself, but if it isn't too much of a fickle job, I'll give it a go this weekend. (I shall have a search on the forum for a step-by-step guide). With regards to the main beam issue, I can hear the stepped relay (the silver one in the engine bay) making a clunking noise. With dipped beams on, clicking the mains on works, but I can't then switch them back off again. Hence my thought that it may be the stalk - again, something I shall take a look at when time permits. |

I've had a quick look at the local factor's site. Am I correct in thinking this square toothed timing belt will fit? (Car is 1990, H reg, model) https://www.eurocarparts.com/p/dayco...belt-325660015 And for the drive belt (I have PAS but not A/C): https://www.eurocarparts.com/p/conti...belt-202770035 Last edited by hreg240; Mar 22nd, 2023 at 10:27. |

Don't discount going to your nearest Volvo dealership"s parts counter as many service items are cheapest direct from Volvo (£6 oil filters, etc.) |

As for Bougiecords:
https://www.classicswede.org/shop/b1...30-ht-lead-set ...although you can save yourself £40 by testing resistance (with a multimeter). If they're all similar, don't bother replacing: Unlike Bosch leads, Bougicord are good for the life of the car, usually. |

Depending on your location, my local dealer is quite a way from me, so when I've wanted / needed genuine Volvo parts I use FRF Volvo in Swansea.
Had very good service from them, I just e-mail Chris Harris on chrisharris@frf-motors.co.uk quote your full VIN and what you are looking for, and they look up the part numbers for you. Quote VOC discount code C0003 and discount varies between 0-30% depending on what you order. Sometimes bits have to come from Sweden, but usually they arrive within a week or so, if they are in stock, parts usually arrive within just a couple of days. Cheers Steve |

BB, thank you for the link for the leads. I shall check them with a meter this weekend; the engine is running a bit lumpy on idle (in my opinion) hence the thought they (and the sparks) could be to blame. |

Lumpy idle is more likely to be injector seals leaking, or some other small induction leak somewhere.
Can of propane lighter gas sprayed judiciously around the running engine intake side can reveal leaks when the idle jumps up. Can also get you high in confined spaces and cause spectacular explosions, so caution needed. |
