you may find that it is a metallic paint BUT the last owners havent washed/cleaned it properly,, so the paint looks "flat"

give it a GOOD wash and a good clay, then polish,, bet you the sparkles from the metalic pops up then,,

and you Will be shocked how much "muck" a claying removes from a Clean just washed car....

£650 is a bargin , what engine/spec is it ?

Andy's right, Rachel.

A good deep clean may be all that it needs to be shining and sparkling again.

Have a look at my 'How to get your car looking great' thread. It has a lot of tips on cleaning without damaging and quite a few examples of polished car, from me and loads of other members. http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=117291

Definitely flat paint, even in the door sills and boot.

2001 1.8i (GDI engine) SE spec, HID's, leather seats with boosters, Craters, 115,000 miles, no faux wood trim either!

Rachel

I have just checked in the 2001 S40/V40 brochure: there are 14 colours listed and one of these is "Blackberry 247".

I appreciate it's perhaps not rock solid reasoning, but 8 of the colours all have numbers beginning with 3 and specify in each case that they are "pearl" or "metallic". The 6 other colours all have numbers beginning with 2, and appear to all be flat colours (including "239 White", "241 Red" and "248 Panama Yellow").

That would fit with the fact that you are certain your car is not metallic but flat paint.

So I reckon "247 Blackberry" is your definitive answer.

Hope that helps!

The Volvo owners club listing of 247 is Mauve and is not assigned to any particular model.

If Rachel gets the code from her brother, we will have a definitive answer.

pop your bonnet, look at the plate straight ahead, it will say the weight etc, and under it it will have your paint code(247). then tell your local volvo dealer 247, and they will say, ah thats blackberry! i have an unused can on my shelf. been there, done it

The car is sitting at her brother's house, so cannot check the code at present.

You have a brochure?? Does it have options listed? Is one of them for HID's?
