20MPG for a 9 series turbo is quite poor for a multi point system. The average one that I have converted does around 25MPG upwards on LPG. My T5 does 25mpg on short runs on petrol and 20 on LPG and I think that is quite bad. On a run the consumption is much better and evens out between the two.

For a Multi point system 20% should be the biggest drop in consumption. With some cars it is possible to actualy get better MPG on LPG than petrol but they are few and far between.
I agree the difference is too big, it's one of the reasons I'm building a high compression LPG engine. If I actually ever do some work on it.

It's never varied much, in reality it's fuel consumption is marginally worse. However you drive it you'll just feel the slightest hesitation after it's done 200 miles on LPG. At that point I switch it to petrol and fill up. Generally that will be 46 litres. That is actually less than 20 to the gallon, it's just over 19. If you tow with it on LPG it goes nuts. I once ran through 46 litres of LPG towing a car traler through France in just under 90 miles, that's under 9 to the gallon!

I've never managed to do much over 200 milles to a tank probably the best ever is 22 mpg running really gently. It's not the basic stuff in the car, I once saw 36 to the gallon on petrol out of it in Sweden when it had run exclusively petrol for a few days.

It ought to run better, it's got a Prins VSI system. Those are real world figures though, it's done 160K miles on LPG

Some of the Dutch boys reckon the 940 is prone to running rich on LPG. If/when I put it back together I'll up the compression and use an LPG optimised chip for LH from Holland.

my 940 LPT averages 25mpg on petrol and 20mpg on LPG but that's on a pretty old style Landi-renzo system

I've just converted myself my VW Passat 1.8 Turbo now this has always returned 42mpg on petrol and now returns 38mpg on gas, that's using an "ESGI" system and works very well indeed.

I pay 65p/L for gas so it really has cut my fuel bills in half

I have my 940 Celibration (LPT) converted my MPG is Petrol=32 Mpg Best. LPG 28Mpg constant. another point to consider is LPG servicing. But the engine will last longer.

Must be a 940 thing then because my lexus on gas does the same if not better MPG on gas as it does on petrol yeah yeah I know its both 18mpg because of my driving style in that car but its practically like for like. On turbo charged cars you'd expect to see a similar sort of comparison as the RON rating of gas is higher so your ignition timing will stay right out on the limit alot longer than on petrol so the negative effects of lower calorific value should be offset.

Smile Lpg costs

My 2005 V70 Estate 2.0 turbo does consistantly 28-29 mpg on Lpg with the aircon on all the time.
When it was fitted originally to my R reg V70 it cost me £2200 for the multi point system. I then had it transferred to my 2005 V70 which cost me around £650. I have since done 60,000 more miles with it & it currently is showing 115,000 miles on the clock.
I would recommend it to anybody but was advised by an installer in Doncaster not to go for the cheaper single point version. It turned out to be wise words as I know of a local bakery who changed all his vans to the cheaper version but had to uninstall all of them again as they did not work! It doesn't pay to be cheap! It must have been the Yorkshireman in him!

I'm interested in the V40.

LPG will have had nothing to do the the HG failure. It will be down to age/milage.

i had my Discovery V8 on LPG, Towing my Caravan down to Wales with a full tank of LPG (105 Litre tank so 85 to 90 ACTUAL litres of Gas)

I got 326 Miles out of it until it cut out (which is what I WANTED IT TO DO) & I HAD to flip over to Petrol

Which works out at just under 17.5 MPG (Which TBH, a 4.6 V8 towing a Bloody HUGE caravan Up & Down Welsh Hills Aint Bad at all!!!!)

& remember it was a Disco which was/is about as Aero-Dynamic as my GARDEN SHED!!!!
