Thanks everyone for the responses! From all this and the many many bad reviews on Amazon i can deduce that it's probably not worth bothering with as i do live in a city.
Double checking the price of a Grom they're actually come in at £110 and I just want to stream via bluetooth from phone so sounds like a good option. Funnily enough I spent new years day on my roof trying to get one of my many tv arials to work - bought house from amateur radio enthusist a year ago and nothing works so far. Massive bloody things darkening the sky. Could have done with some help then 😀 got it fixed in the end so very grateful to not have to fiddle around with anthing radio related for a while! |

I tried this with a Pure Highway, and it was a great disappointment.
The Pure has, I recall, six preset output frequencies on the FM band. I used to drive frequently from Standish to London, and along the M6/M42 I would need to jump to an alternate output frequency maybe 4-5 times due to bleed over from a much stronger local FM signal which was adjacent to the Pure. This is not trivial when you are driving, and required several button sequences on the Pure. After six months, I binned it and went back to 5Live on MW

Ditto on all the advice regarding FM transmitters.
In the end I gave up and spent £280 to do the job properly; yup - this was comprised of CAD199 (circa £120) including shipping on an iMIV box to give me RCA input to the HU-803 head unit, and £130 on a Parrot MKI9100. The remaining £30 was spent a few weeks later when a nice letter arrived from HMRC demanding import tax. None-the-less it has been worth every penny; a great setup that together with a 128GB USB stick means I have my entire music collection with me at all times as well as streaming from my smartphone. Being completely fair; after three years the Parrot started intermittently dropping left hand channel output. It would come back with the next bump in the road. Careful troubleshooting proved the blue box (the heart of the Parrot) to be at fault. I obtained a brand new replacement from ebay for £42 that plugged and played seamlessly despite running v3 hardware and software rather than the older v2 hardware with v2.02 software of the box that failed. The new box is noticeably faster to do things. Things includes the speed at which satnav instructions from my smartphone release their lock on streamed music. In other words, if buying an MKi9100 make sure it is a v3 model.
