You know when you're all buoyant about a project and then things knock the wind right out...well that is great news and has reinvigorated my enthusiasm this morning, thank you. Not that I wasn't up for the challenge but knowing I now don't need to is great as I have choices once more. Also my immediate budget has been swallowed by the wife's car blowing a gasket and seizing! I figured I'd need the flywheel, etc, as it has the tone wheel for the sensor. Thanks buddy |

Dai,
Would 15G be a good alternative to the 13C? Or would an upgrade to the internals of the 13C be the best route forward? I was looking at these: https://www.turborebuild.co.uk/websh...urbo-Core.html When would it make sense to consider Waste Spark on a turbo charged redblock? Is there a rule of thumb? Above certain BHP? Thx for explaining the HG. Obvious. Elring I have laying around. |

15G is a good upgrade from an ease point of view, if you get one with the same downpipe fitting (conical) - they need clocking to fit but have a less restrictive exhaust housing.
240ratrod - if your 240 already has a 4 speed autobox (which the internet suggests you would at '84) then it's the 'same' as the 940 box and keeping that for the cable drive is definitely the easiest option. Look into removing the overdrive solenoid and keep on top of the fluid to make it works properly. Shame you're up in Notts as I'd say pop round for a demo otherwise |

oh, one more thing - knock up a simple retainer plate for the cam head bung, similar to what IPD sells. There have been a few horror stories of all the oil falling out and it's an easy job.

The 15G is an easy to fit upgrade that keeps a very nice drivable car. The 13c is too small for the engine in all honesty. You can consider wasted spark on a otherwise factory original engine, on the other hand you could have a 500BHP engine still with the original ignition |

Thanks, yes I have seen the IPD kit and read that a plate should be used as an added.
Re the overdrive: when I bought the car I had no fourth gear, so I removed the solenoid and ground a groove in it so it was effectively deactivated. I topped up the fluids and ever since have had a proper 4 speed auto. Why would you want to have to manually activate fourth gear? I thought both boxes were the same, except for the speedo drive. The B230FT is now free from the 940 'box so I assume no issues with bolting it up to the 240 'box? As the 240 is used every day at the moment I'm trying to do what I can to the B230 in preparation for the day of removing the B23 to make time without the car as short as possible. Yeah if I need to come down your way any time I'll let you know, but it's a hefty drive! |

Best thing to do is get the engine fully built up and all the parts you know you will need ready for the swap.
If you can afford a new petrol tank I would consider getting one and putting the fuel pump etc into that. If you are picking out the wiring loom then I would suggest building that up as much as possible before pulling the B23 out |

When will you be getting these back in stock: RHD 240 turbo 2.5 inch down pipe - Product Code: 240T-DP https://www.classicswede.co.uk/RHD_2..._14303337.aspx How severe is the crush bent lower 45 degree bend? I had planned to build a mandrel bent 2.5" down pipe myself but you can't beat that price. Thanks, Matt.

Swapping aux shafts is the most 'involved' part of the job, if you can find one separately, you can get the turbo engine fully built in advance - I'd suggest leaving the cam for another day. Are you aware of flipping the steering column? It's also worth cleaning up any engine bay/bulkhead rust while the engine is out. I'd recommend not rushing it and give yourself a chunk of time to sort out things like intercooler piping, exhaust fab. It's not complicated but equally not going to take you 5 mins Have a read of my build thread on RR with some pics of stuff (pages 5 & 6 are turbo conversion) http://forum.retro-rides.org/thread/...-update?page=5 |
