Based on this: https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=20650 I'm going to try taking the front bumper off and doing it that way.... a 10 minute job turns into a several hours job ;(

Right.. after much swearing and sweat the wiper motor is out.. I tried to take the front bumper off but realised that wasn't going to happen because the 14mm bumper mounting bolts on the underside didn't want to come off. I then tried what the Haynes manual suggested and removed the left radiator mounting bolt and loosened the right one with the front of the car jacked up. This wasn't easy in itself and needed a fair bit of plusgas.
With a lot of effort pushing back the radiator and jiggling the motor it finally came out. Now I'll open it up and hopefully fix it.

Unfortunately I wasn't able to fix it, had the whole thing apart and I think there's some kind of intermittent signal or motor failure. You can see it auto-adjust when the ignition goes on, but it doesn't wipe properly, it will just move position once each time when you turn on the wipers. I disassembled and reassembled it multiple times trying the cogs in different positions and tried to bend the electrical leaf contact thing more but that's the best I could get it to perform
I've now ordered a second hand one from the USA so it's going to take a while to arrive..

What I'm wishing for the most of the most right now is your success StatusRed
My solution for a while was to unplug the wipers perfect whilst repair attempts were made to the well over 100 quids worth of worldwide, US and GB and EU guaranteed to work second hand crap, most of which was thankfully refunded Until I got a bargain price on new ones from FCP Euro at about 200 quid Considering I restore my volvos the new working wipers made me happy If it was not a restorer the original motors would have stayed unplugged There's still plenty of cultivating room in my garden bed

When I removed my headlight wiper motors I removed headlights and cut flaps in the panel, removed the 2 motor bolts and lifted motor out, replaced motor and secured the flaps with cable ties.
