also it's been pointed out in the past volvo oem shoes are best for these cars but you seem to have gone with brembo so maybe that's ok ?

(usually the alternative being 'lesser' aftermarket options I guess)

They definitely should have put new new springs on even though they're a right royal pain.
Let us know how you get on with the shoes, I found that the Volvo ones are the only ones that will hold well.

Update :

Replace all the old springs and the shoes were solid and tighten (huge difference) , also check the pop noise on jack again and nothing to hear.. looks like problem solved , but after 5m drive in town that pop noise is baaack

Only thing that surprised me was that when I took off the shoes, the expader fell to the ground, almost no force was exerted on it... is it supposed to be or shouldn't it just fall out..

I also thought I heard a slightly different 1 pop sound a little while after the ride..

Maybe the expander is bad ? but what effect would it have on the popping ?

can we just confirm what you mean by expander

A - definitely shouldn't fall to the floor, that would mean it's not firmly connected to the handbrake cable ?!

B - yes that will just fall out because without the shoes there's nothing to hold it in place

just a thought it's not handbrake cable itself slapping up against the boot floor or trailing arm is it? could check that it's secured correctly

Update :

the end of the cable with the clip not in the hole was turned the other way and I had to turn it back and hammer the little clip to make it fit as it should (there is still little move if u move it with hand), the result is that the pop noise disappeared for 90%, I only heard it a few times.

I also add video with the expander , but i think after the technical inspection where the handbrake broke before the repair probably somehow damaged the cables and the expander , storage..

I upload video so tell me your view , but I think it can't be that free.

But Im ok with noise now ... car have about 240k miles.

To make it 100% I will need probably have to replace the cables and the expander too because as I said I can still hear that sound over there sometimes , will see with time..
