Ah right. I personally don't have any issues with anyone involved in either thread, and I'm sure all involved are well respected on here. All I can say, and I'm sure I speak for most of the people on here is, try not to get at each other in every thread you all contribute to, agree to disagree by all means, but maybe one, some or all of you leave it so it doesn't get out of hand.

I'm just saying guys.

One of the best tips I ever got was a member here introducing the idea of testing coolant with a voltmeter. Some stuff here about it , a lot more on the web.
There are many coolants out there that will do the job adequately. Some of two years, some for five. I changed my Volvo coolant at 9 yrs. In retrospect, based on the numbers it wasn't necessary.
As you measure and compare you realise that not all coolants are the same. From what I have seen of the Volvo coolant based on the voltmeter readings I would not change. Easy for me to say as it's freely available here at a comparable price to other products. I would say the same product is available with a different label on the bottle.
I think you can overthink the coolant issue like oil. If you are prepared to change it frequently ( 2 yrs , 5 yrs ) and maintain the concentration and level I don't think it really makes a whole lot of difference what you use.
Someone who maintains the 'wrong' coolant is streets ahead of someone who neglects the ' right' one.

No they're not.
Some involved sound and behave remarkably similar to banned members though, almost like they're the same people.....
None of it bothers me. They'll be pink (again) soon enough.

True.
If the right one is cheaper though, even better and yes that voltage test is an excellent indicator.
Done with the volume and clarity test, as conclusive as you'll ever need.

Why rant about gearbox fluid? No one mentioned it.
Buying Volvo coolant simply saves you having to do any homework on specs, will see you right for 10+ years and....... It's cheaper than your Comma stuff.
Why pay more?
Because the guy asked for a alternative I gave him one in contrast to your good self who wheeled out the good old consult your local volvo dealer gumf

10 years ? Hang you said fit and forget before ..any way dream on 10 years is seven years too long ...I measured the Ph of mine using the old volt meter method and the volvo coolant it had been filled with was way out of tolerance , leave that in for ten years and it would have consumed most of the alumiuimn alloy in the engine.

As for the reference to gearbox oil I was making the point volvo and no doubt there slavish followers claim volvo manual gearbox oil also never ever needs changing as it lasts apparently for ever .....

How do actually know for a fact that the anti freeze that's been Sold to volvo who then transfer it to a nice blue bottle is any better ?

Or do you still believe the fairly story about the volvo elves making it in gothenburg to a secret recipe , that blesses it with magical powers.

In the power steering fluid thread, when I suggested the Comma alternative, you said to consult Volvo for the spec but now you're saying that's gumf?!

My original coolant was passing all tests at 12 years but failed the voltage test this year at 13 years so it's been changed.
No rust, no problems at all so a good 10 years is easily achievable.

I've never seen anyone, (slavish or otherwise) suggest this.
The manual gear oil gets changed anyway when the clutch is done so it can't be for life but I prefer around 50k miles.

What are you babbling on about?
I've said the Volvo coolant is cheaper than Comma and will last 10 years. That's it.
Everything else is in your strange little head.
