Hi,
I have a suspicion that what doors can open may depend on what is set for opening in the vehicle menu. If the car is set to open all doors then from inside all doors can open with a double pull (front passengers can press the lock/unlock button and then open). If one side only is set, perhaps only doors on that side can be opened with a double pull? Des. . .

Rattle may also come from the front suspension struts' bearings. I had that issue with my dad's V70N. The McPherson struts have a bearing at the top, since the whole strut rotates when you turn.
Regarding the locks, I think I have to go out and do a test... OK, so if I lock my doors with the button on the driver's door panel, I can still open every door from the inside, by a double pull in the handle. I've yet to try automatic locking when driving, as I normally never use that function. I just realized that perhaps it's different if you set the car not to unlock all doors at entry? When locked from the outside, my doors are in a deadlock state, where you can't open from the inside at all. If all doors are locked like that, you have the car set to only unlock the driver's door when entering, and you then drive away, perhaps the deadlock state remain in the other three doors? Mine is set to unlock all doors via fob, and then auto-lock when driving. After that, only the drivers door can be opened via the 'double pull' method (much to the annoyance of my other half who is sat in the passenger seat). I now am in the habit of using the unlock switch when I stop to enable passengers to get out. A bit of an annoyance, but having had someone try to open my door after a road rage incident, it's an inconvenience I'm willing to put up with for security.

Evening all,
Thanks for all the replies and suggestions regarding the rattle, and I think it’s coming from the passenger door... It’s now getting more rattly, and I noticed the other day that when the window was going back up, it got about a third of the way up, shifted a bit and zoomed down; I then have to hold the button to make it go up all the way, so guess the window runner/mech’s broken, and I’ve had this happen on a couple of older cars, so it wouldn’t surprise me. I did have a quick look around under the bonnet, and the battery cover closest to the windscreen has a broken clip, so that’s loose, along with it not clamping the cowling at the base of the windscreen down, so I’m guessing that could be causing a rattle too. I’ll get there, it’s just the niggles you find with any used car after you’ve owned it for a little while! Just over 800 miles in four days this week, and I can’t believe how comfy the seats are - it felt like I’d only driven a couple of miles when I got home last night! New bulbs fitted today, along with mats and sunglasses holder, and it’s starting to feel like it’s my car now. With regards to the locking, it seems we’ve all got different ways that it locks, but I’m glad I’m not alone with the weird deadlocking. Just to clarify, I have it set to unlock all doors with the key, and it is set to auto lock. Have a good weekend all! |

My dad's V70N also rattled when traversing uneven ground.

Well I found the cause of the main rattle yesterday, and it was an easy fix!
The more we listened to it, the more it sounded like it was coming from something rattling underneath the car, I had assumed the heat shield around the exhaust tunnel, but no! It turned out to be a nut that has loosened off over the years and a piece of the underbody plastic covering in front of the rear passenger wheel was flapping around; nut tightened and the cover was solidly back in place. A quick test drive proved it was sorted...so now just to find that light rattle around the dashboard! |
