It is interesting to see how the niggles and annoyances that come with a new car change from time to time

Mostly with the XC60 it has been the electronic parking brake, often the headlights acting as DRL, sometimes the position of the switches, occasionally the fact that left and right temp zones have a button each and now we add the wipers to the list

My complaint was that they should have made this car sooner, I still think it is the best car I have owned and as a result I am keeping it for longer rather than changing it!

Well what if you go to you car for the first time in the day and the wipers are stuck with ice. can you please tell my how they can be put into the correct position without ripping them off the windscreen.
Or have I got it wrong

You can lift them off the windscreen enough to free them when they're in the parked position - plenty enough to clear ice etc.

The service position should work. Try pressing start button without the break, ignition is on. Now press briefly to turn ignition off and push the wiper stalk up for three seconds. The wipers should be in the service position.

My concern is when the wipers are frozen to the windscreen and have to be lifted to ensure they are free to move. I would not fancy moving them to the service position without making sure doing so would not cause damage.

the advantage is they are not so much visible the chances of frost getting into that position is lessened if you do it properly you can scrape the rest quick blast of de icer or i sometimes have used IPA.

My Citroen C5 wipers were also tucked below the bonnet - much the same arrangement that you selected one wipe with the ignition off and the wipers rose up and stayed in that position
