Sure. Let me get them down here and stripped down, and I'll see what's what. Remind me if I forget! Do you have a particular timescale in mind?

cheers

James

I have a few things to pick up, as of today, so I'll try to make a trip up there later in the week.

I've got them. Got the brakes off, so that's most of the weight gone. I'm going to struggle to get the shocks out with the tools I have. I've had a crack at the one with the collapsed spring seat, as the access is much better. The top nut is having none of it (without spinning), and I can't get the large nut holding the shock in loose either. I'll see if the other top nut will come loose tomorrow - at least the whole thing is held in tension by the spring on that one.

Any tips? I guess you need a suitable (giant) spanner for the shock nut.

cheers

James

Hi,sorry for delay posting been away sprinting, you need to hold the shock rod with mole grips just under the top spring seat ,not strictly correct but we`re not going to re-use the inserts anyway, then you can get at the nut that holds the insert in the casing,I use a large pair if pipe grips with the case in a vice, but then we`ve got full workshop facilities at our disposal, hope this helps mike

My garage is fairly well equipped for an amateur, but there are a few obvious omissions...large mole grips being one of them. I've tried that approach with stilsons, but no joy...it's too smooth for them to get a grip!

I've seen a technique for doing the shock retaining nut (nut in a table-mounted vice, then turn the spindle using an internally padded tube), so I'll give that a shot. It'd be fine if the machined section wasn't so damn tiny (3-4mm?)!

cheers

James
