A few comments about the price being on the high side, but remember the OP Is Dutch based, the used car market there is quite different - there is generally more of a culture of look after things well and keep them going longer, hence they buy fewer new cars per head of population so used car values can be higher.
I know there are a few Dutch members on here who could maybe confirm/deny that?

I think there will always be a small amount of backlash but it shouldn't turn more than a few degrees back or forth. If it turns all the way round then the coupling in the angle gear is almost certainly stripped.

Alright so I called the Volvo specialist that maintained the car since it came in to the Netherlands, (found the garage by looking at the maintenance booklet in the dealer photos) and this is what he told me:
-The car was maintained by them since 2018 to 2023. -The car has had all the small normal maintenance done like all the filters, oil changes, spark plugs and so on at regular intervals. -It also had some more intensive maintenance done like suspension work a few years back. - Had both of the rear coils changed. - Rear right wheel bearing changed in 2021. - Rear left bearing changed in 2022. - Had the brake fluid changed. Since this is a Volvo garage, all the maintenance was done in accordance to Volvo standards and I'm guessing to some kind of mileage timeline. Unfortunately they did not change the belts. From what he said the belts were already changed if I understood correctly. Also he said that the gearbox is in good condition. And since this is a Swedish import he says it might be rusty. recommends asking the dealer to raise the car on the ramp to check. What do you make of it? I'd advise definitely getting it up on a ramp to check for rust. That could be a deal breaker.

After my previous purchase of the golf I am anxious to get everything right this time, and be prepared as much as possible. |

One more thing about the tires - the brand is Hankook. I did a quick google search and apparently they are a mid range tire brand. Any one know anything about these tires?

You don't want old tyres, even if the tread is good. Some tyres start to crack after around 6-7 years, sometimes even less. I don't keep old tyres on my car... 7 years old maximum (from manufacturing date) and I change them.

If the timing belt has been done, particulary if by a volvo garage using volvo parts, there should be a sticker under the bonnet showing the date and kilometres covered, and when the next change is due.

Would this help?
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/335274187...emis&media=SMS The repair could be worthwhile at this mileage/price, or even engine replacement.. There are many independent Volvo garages that can sort this and plenty of doner engines. Perhaps worth a thought? Last edited by john langrick; Mar 16th, 2024 at 19:10. |
