Almost certain to be ex-plod. Their cars don't have all the usual creature comforts in them, no leather, no cruise control, no stereo system, although this one has been replaced. Its guaranteed to have had the 5hit kicked out of it, but if its still a good runner, and doesn't need to much money thrown at it, you've got a bargain for that price. Looks like the face lift model, so will be the 260 bhp engine. That converts to 11 lamp posts to the gallon.

It won't be 300 bhp though, they really did have standard engines, honest. It should have the other mods though.
Are there any signs of Police markings or lights being removed? If not, it could have been an unmarked or even driving school car. The patrol cars around here were usually sold at 140-150k.

It always makes me smile when I see a plain white V70 in basic trim and people debate whether it's ex-plod. Would anyone go out and spend a lot of money on a new car but insist on base spec and in white so that everyone thinks it looks like a police car especially once you come to sell it on

mines exactly the same, manual air con, manual rear view mirror and no leather. According to the V5 it's an SE (Serious lack of Equipment?). Mine does has auto levelling lights but 99.9% sure they're not not xenon. These were built specifically for plod so all the usual stuff you find on a SE spec these ones don't have. The only thing I really miss is cruise control! Got the buttons on another steering wheel just haven't had the chance to swap over and a bit hesistant to spend £300 for the software.

The facelift 2.4's were 260bhp standard (mine went on a rolling road about 3 weeks ago and that's producing 266bhp). Strange that you don't have the square pattern seats.
Enjoy it!

Don't know if it's true but the "myth" used to be that plod cars of most makes weren't tuned in any way but generally had blueprinted engines.

The engines were absolutely standard. They only upgraded the brakes after the first 850 demos tended to lose all of their braking ability on even the shortest pursuit.

A blueprinted engine is to all intents and purposes standard - it has just been assembled carefully to ensure that every component is well matched and as close to the ideal tolerance and spec as the designer intended.

Should have put it another way. They came straight off the standard production line.
