its a 2003 (52) d5 auto. Surely it cant be that slow
any ideas what could be wrong, it takes a bloody eternity to rev to 2000rpm then it wakes up

thanks
gotta be something wrong there, would imagine mine would get to 60 mph quicker than that. Thats without flogging the bottom off it as well.

Could be quite a number of things..... Split hose to the intercooler? Binding brakes? Clogged air filter? Do you have any warning lights or messages, when was the car last serviced?

I had exactly the same problem with my 2000 s80 2.5d and after reading reports on here i came to the conclusion that it was the ''mass air flow meter''.
I got a brand new one off e.bay for £49.90 plus £5.90 postage ( http://stores.shop.ebay.co.uk/parnexion__W0QQ_armrsZ1 ) it only took 10 mins to change and goes great now..

Yep MAF is a good call too, although I'd suggest not getting one off ebay - you can be lucky but there are a LOT of fakes on there.

Curent mileage 129k
last seviced 120k by independent, previuos to that all main dealer

Did get an 'engine service reqd' warning and took it to an independent who had the comp eqpt AND a main dealer mechanic there who said it was a turbo connection/ fault nothing to worry about at moment and would check it on the 132k service.

Once it gets to 2000 rpm eveything is ok and goes well.

Also just done Reading to Stirling at 70mph on cruise (62mph ave) and got 42 on the comp and 46 actual on fill to fill, so it looks like nothing drastic UNLESS i should be getting more on the mpg
as a reminder it is a 2002 D5 Auto

I had a 130bhp manual diesel Mondeo estate loan car for a few weeks before taking delivery of my V70 D5 03 manual , the Volvo published 0-62 is 9.8s and very similar to the published Ford figures . For a while I believed the Ford figures and couldnt understand why with 33 bhp more power in the Volvo and similar weight there was so little difference but now I realise that Ford were lying and Volvo being very conservative so would think that 9.3s would be about right for the 0-60 time .
