CEM inspected yesterday, no apparent signs of corrosion, all connections look good according to the Volvo specialist (who incidentally have been really helpful from the start).
That's frustrating - I was hoping for a clearly burnt CEM to confirm the source of the problem. Options now include:
I've opted for 2) and 3), which will go ahead tomorrow. If that combination doesn't do it, I will not be happy. |

Just wasted £900
New CEM installed and software updated.
On the drive back from the garage, I got the "anti skid" errors / limp mode back. Presumably the same ones as before: http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/attach...5&d=1404562609 Having just completely wasted £900+, I'm at my wit's end with this car. Please, can someone offer some advice. |

Sounds a long shot but can't the reluctor rings on the wheels cause anti skid message or the brake message not sure how true it is remember reading on here somewhere about it hope you can get it sorted

You pay them to do a proper job not just guess and replace parts at your expense. |

I know how you feel, there's been a few times I've considered reaching for the matchbox and a petrol can with this car.

Thanks for the comments guys.
Danielpsmith - appreciate the suggestion, I heard the same thing and got them checked at the start. SonyVaio - if it was stealership, yes definitely. However, the independent Volvo garage were completely upfront about the risks (i.e. that it might not fix the problem) but from all I've read over the past few weeks, the CEM seemed the most likely culprit. Being an intermittent problem doesn't help. Took a chance, didn't pay off unfortunately. bobdabuilda - funnily enough, the thought had crossed my mind! What next? Maybe the DEM? The error log shows a DEM E000 and a CEM 1A64 which both seem related to the diff. Does anyone which fuse is associated with the DEM in the rear fuse box? If I can disconnect that and not get limp mode, that would be a good start. I've got a 2006 XC90. |

If you had a Ferrari would you take it anywhere other than a dealer ? It is the same thing , cars are now very specialised whether it is a volvo or a smart car and sometimes you need the manufacturers help through their dealers . Is your car is a 2005-6 model ? If so i would fit the CEM waterproofing kit , don't want to see that CEM ruined in the future !

Fair point Clan, can't really argue with that.
In terms of the DEM fuse, it's number 23 in the REM in the boot. ...found a useful reference for XC90 fuses. I removed it this morning and immediately got the familiar "Anti skid service required" message - expected to see something. I'll drive it round like this for a while, if I don't get limp mode and the other symptoms (see first post in this thread), I'll know I'm probably looking at a £1200 bill for a new DEM. Clan - I've got the late 2006 185 bhp model which has the CEM waterproofing sorted. Incidentally, I've got a perfectly good second-hand CEM sitting in the boot if anyone wants to buy it for spares! |
