My car (MY2022 with Google system) certainly recognises motorway speed changes. But apart from that it's desperately inaccurate - presumably because the Google maps data is rubbish. Yesterday on a trip from London it managed to tell me 30 in a 60 zone, 30 in a 70 zone, 20 in a 30 zone and 60 in a 30 zone. Can't rely on it at all I'm afraid outside motorways.

Note: In certain markets, the road sign information function is only available in combination with map data. This may require the settings for Google Maps to be changed.

No hint at what market this is aimed at but I'm guessing at least the UK from how I'v see my cars operating.
Think it uses both systems, but think the map data might get priority, the displayed speeds can vary wildly from the actual sometimes, but then it will see temp road speed signs and display them.

My 2020 V90 only gets affected by poor local authority signs.

As I travel along a 50 MPH three lane carriageway there are 30 MPH signs on the edge of the slip roads. They are huge and point out to the main carriageway. The local authority must be well pleased that they have set these signs to shout at passing cars.

Autonomous Driving will never work with this silly behaviour. The Speed Limit function reads these signs and slams on the brakes.

Interestingly, the system does recognise signs that only apply at certain times of day (there are a lot of these in Germany). A little "timed" indicator pops up under the speed sign. Presumably this info is baked into the Google maps. Don't know if the speed limiter is programmed to respond appropriately.

Default national spped limit sign not recognised ?

When driving my MY24 XC60 Ive noticed it recognises speed limit changes to the red circle signs with the speed limit inside as soon as the car passes them but it does not display the black/white National speed limit sign.. Im sure my previous xc40 sensus system did but google does not seem to..

Anyone else have this 'feature'

I've found that the national speed limit sign rarely appears on my Sensus car. Sometimes it does, sometimes is shows 60 or 70 and sometimes it shows nothing.

The Sensus system, like in my XC90 MY 2019, for sure uses a combination of camera and map based data.

It's supposed to be able to show the speed limit ends sign too, the one you call national speed limit sign. But we haven't used that since 1967 in Sweden, so I don't know how it handles it here.

Yes mine got stuck at 70mph the other day which was odd as wasn't even on a 70mph limit road. Since the last update the system has not functioned as well as it did before it. The new tweaked mode of being able to operate, albeit limited, when a connection is lost seems to have taken over the system and the Google map data is being ignored or needs updating itself by Google.

UK market cars with Google and the single camera definitely pick up road signs from the side of the road, they seem to show the map speed first but temporary road works or signs that are pointing the wrong way have set the speed on several 2023 and 2024 cars I've driven.

Default Speed Sign Recognition

My 2018 XC90 (Sensus) recognises speed signs with the camera and map data and does a good job except for when used in conjunction with the option turned on for not exceeding the speed limit.

When approaching a school where the the 30mph is reduced to 20mph 'when the light is flashing' i.e at the beginning and end of school times, the camera only reads the 20mph sign and therefore puts the brakes on if doing 30mph which is obviously disconcerting.

A shame as I like the option not to exceed the speed limit as it is so easy to inadvertently go a few miles over the speed limit. Finally, the camera has always recognised temporary road work signs and overall I applaud the system.
