But the apparently decent 123GT on fleabay may well be full of hidden horrors. When your car is done you know it's done and you know how it's screwed together. Personally I don't feel you can apply the same win/ lose criteria you might with a modern car. On the other hand if getting your money back is key to your criteria and the car is not going to be a keeper then I understand your position.

True enough. And, to be fair, mine looked in somewhat better condition until I'd started peering into cylinder bores.

Well, it's not so much getting my money back as trying to avoid blowing a huge amount more than I'm ever likely to see if I decided to sell in a couple of years!

You need to decide whether it's for an investment or for your pleasure. If the latter prepare to empty your pockets. If you are a smoker pack it in and that will cover a large part of your costs. A win win situation, become healthier and enjoy your car

Sound advice!

Would that I smoked! I've never really been a proper smoker and haven't had a cig in the last five years. I've even stopped drinking of late (sugar-free ginger beer at 50p a 2 litre bottle) now the drink of choice!

Jeez, I've got bloody tedious of late.

Yep. You're right, Robert! It's wishful thinking and 'grass is greener." Probably BRG.

Sugar free ginger beer? Where do you get that? Also like the driving hat, I have one from Lewis and Harris...

Well, I'm currently running a rolling taste test - and Waitrose and Sainsbury's are coming out well. Can't taste the difference between the Waitrose stuff and the Old Jamaica Light.

The directions these threads go!
